The time has come... Getting a new car.

Well school is about to start, I still need a job, and the mark STILL isnt done. After talking to my dad hes gonna get me a car.

Im looking at a 1984 ford ranger. 2.3, 5 speed, 92k miles, needs a brake line
price 1000, 1200 if he fixes the brake line
If i get it it will get my 2.3t from my old bird, as well as the rear gears, and the wheels from the MK7
http://providence.craigslist.org/car/774532069.html

Next is a turbo coupe near his house with a rebuilt motor, and new turbo. Thats all i know about it, other then its a 87-88 aero bird. I think he said 1600, so I think its a little out of our range
We are looking for other birds, rangers, and fox mustangs:evilgrin:

Last resort is I take home his 88 turbo coupe, so no matter what I WILL have a new car/truck, a RWD, FORD car/truck.
If I get the ranger, I will keep the mark.
If i get a bird or mustang, it will get the 5 lug and brand new brake stuff, along with other things. If its a mustang it will be a 2.3 and get the turbo coupe motor, or a 5.0 and get all the mark mods

If I part the mark, I WILL find another

Now I know all the basic mods for the turbo motor(it will get them all and more), anyone know the ranger swap write ups?

2.3Tswoop in Ranger.

8.8 rear end swoop ( will need the axle housing cut and custom axles, if u want the rear to last.) If its going to stay stock u can keep the 8" rear if I'm not mistaken thats what it comes with.

But the most imprtant things You will need to swoop are

The Engine and Wiring harness
T-5 Tranny if its going to stay an Manual.
The clutch and Clutch/Flywheel, Clutch hydrolics, and slave cylinder.
Add a boost gauge.
Bigger tires cause I think you the Ranger comes with 14's you will need a 16 to handle that power and 15 might work not sure though.
Custom Drive shaft and yolk.
Not sure what else you would need anyone else know chim in.

Dude, what orifice did you pull that info out of???

First, the 4-cyl Ranger tranny will bolt right onto a 2.3t. The 2.3t block is identical to the non-turbo block.

Second, so will the clutch, hydraulics, bellhousing, etc.

Third, changing to a T-5 would actually be more work than keeping the Ranger tranny, since the shifter is in a different location (and it would likely require a custom crossmember as well).

Fourth, rim size has very little to do with how much power tires can handle. The stock tires on a Ranger would very easily "handle" the power a 2.3t puts out. He could easily upgrade to larger 14" tires (such as a 235/60R14). 16" wheels are absolutely not required.

Fifth, a custom driveshaft and yoke (not "yolk" - yolk is from eggs) is not required. Stock tranny, stock rear end, stock-style block. Nothing is moved. No drivetrain dimensions are changed. Why would he need custom driveshaft and yoke?

Sixth, a "custom" 8.8 setup with cut housings and custom axles would not be required, either. The existing rear end should easily hold up to a 2.3t, but even if he wanted an 8.8 he could simply get an 8.8" rear from a few-years-newer Ranger or Explorer that would bolt in.

Seriously, man. If you can't provide accurate info, why bother posting at all? I don't even know much about the turbo Lima, but even I recognized your post as rubbish. The only part of your post that was correct was the fact that he'd need the engine and harness. Thankfully I know Mason is smart enough to know better with the other "advice" you spouted.

Misleading info you pull out of your ass is not a help. It's a hindrance. You make things worse by leading people down the wrong path. If you don't know, don't make things up.

You remember you made that post asking why you got the "red dot"? Posts like this certainly don't help.

:iagree: The 1991-1994 explorer will have a drum rear end, as will the rangers and BII's.  My BII had a 3.73 gear ratio (4x4). These will likely be the 7.5".  The 1995 and newer explorers had 8.8" rear with disc brakes.  Not sure all of them did (8.8" that is), but one look underneath will show you.  It would be a good pickup, as you describe with your mods.  Also gives you a nice parts runner (and furniture mover, lol).  You'll be the envy of all your apartment renting friends, :punchballs:

Thanks.
I knew rangers had an 8.8, just not which years.
And your right I knew it was all . If i was going to need a new transmission set up I wouldnt even think about it. As far as wheels the truck has aftermarket ones on it, and I would only put the bigger ones on there for looks. I live up north, wide tires SUCK in snow(you know that) so the ones on it would be much better anyway.
Im researching and I still have to see if the truck is worth buying first. Im not getting a rust bucket

Like this?

It would be a little more difficult starting with a carbed '84, but it could be done.

The '84 would have a 7.5 rear with 3.45's most likely.  A T5 swap would be more work...been there done that (started with a 2.9 A4LD truck).

Gen 1 Rangers are about the only truck I like, and I don't like them much.  I got SOOO sick of driving a truck all the time.

the reasons why I want it
I can still use it for light truck stuff, its not a huge v8 gas sucker truck, and it will all be cheap allowing me to have money for the mark(if it stays) or the stang, AND college.

1987 (iirc) or newer fuel lines and efi pump.  http://www.therangerstation.com is a great resource for Ranger stuff.

go to tech library and engine rebuild/swap

A tank/lines and pump(s) from a later Gen 1 should suffice.

On my '88, I just swapped out the stock inline pump for one from a turbo car as I was not building a monster.

Keeping the stock trans would be the easiest for you to avoid any excessive downtime.
Swap the engine, upgrade the fuel system, and sort out the electronics and you'd be good.
