Burning a hole in my pocket... SHO? August 06, 2008, 07:28:55 PM So Ive gone from buying a bike to doin a 5 lug swap to now wanting another car within the last month.I have now come to realize that the best bet as of the situation I am in is to buy another car. The bike I would have had to drive my car during winter an I hate doing that. 5 lug had nothing but good things to offer, but I cant afford to drive my car back and forth from school since I have to cut my hours so it doesnt help the $$$ in the long run.So I have come up with 4(5) cars that I am working on getting as of now.1-88 4 bangger hatch 5 speed wants 11002-1989 Nissan pick up 5 speed wants 7503-91&92 SHO 5 speeds one washiznit on rear driver side other smokes wants 1000 for both4-91 Toyota Supra Turbo 5 speed needs new harness (fire) and fender. wants $500There are 2 TCs I founf too, 86 (wants 1600) needs motor installed and a tranny (5 speed car) and 88 (wants 1000) needs tranny (auto),So I am really leaning toward the SHOs right now. But really they all arent bad. Not sure about the Supra yet might be too much to get up and going. Truck wont start (sounds like battery or starter from what he said. Mustang is well its just a Mustang.Need opinions on the SHOs though. Good buy? How does everyone feel about them? Quote Selected
Burning a hole in my pocket... SHO? Reply #1 – August 06, 2008, 07:42:50 PM I bought a '92 SHO 5spd over two years ago, and I put over 300 miles a week on it. The weakest point is the tranny and differential, but if you refrain from doing burnouts all the time, they can be very dependable cars. Look over at http://www.shoforum.com for more info. They are very comfortable cars to drive, especially on long trips. I have been averaging between 25-28 mpg, driving aggressively. :burnout: Quote Selected

Burning a hole in my pocket... SHO? Reply #3 – August 06, 2008, 08:35:41 PM Well I paid $1200 for mine, changed the crank sensor and put on new timing belt. Closing in on 189,000 miles. Being worth it, would depend on how good the body is, and how good the motor and tranny are. One thing with these cars are that parts are not cheap.:hick: Quote Selected

Burning a hole in my pocket... SHO? Reply #6 – August 06, 2008, 09:01:14 PM I had a SHO for a while, it was a '92 MTX and it was the most fun I've ever had driving a Taurus. Paid $800 for it, put new front brakes an alternator on it and just drove it. Broke a differential pin and sold car for $500. If you get 'em just be prepared to look around when you need parts as many are no longer available new. I paid $75 for a used alternator and it was a good deal at the time. Quote Selected

Burning a hole in my pocket... SHO? Reply #12 – August 07, 2008, 01:48:59 PM Waiting on a reply from the guy. I looked up water pumps and a reman is only 55 plus 10 core. I am swapping the motor from the 92 into the 91 so I will swap it then just for insurance. As long as I can drive them both home (hour drive) then I'm getting them. Fun quick 5speed car and over 25mpgs! Im all for it. Need to get them soon and do the work before I leave for school. (20th)! Quote Selected

Burning a hole in my pocket... SHO? Reply #14 – August 07, 2008, 06:10:50 PM There is another thing to watch for, if they haven't been corrected via the recall. The cam chain sprockets can come loose from the cam and this will drive all the valves in to the piston tops. Very ugly thing to happen. Quote Selected
