Coolant flush July 16, 2008, 04:14:29 PM What brand of chem flush does anybody recomend? It (my 88) is running hot. I did the stat and refilled the rad but the rad is not flowing as evidenced from watching the tubes in the tank not flow. The rad was new back when they(prev owner) parked the car but years of sitting has gunked it up. I drained the rad and ran straight water through it but it's not breaking up the crud. The fins are very ped up but if I lightly take a screw driver to them, the shiznit falls off and new looking metal is exposed. In other words, the car was using what equates to dust for coolant LOL.Any suggestions as to what kind of flush that WORKS I can pick up at the parts store? Thanks Quote Selected

Coolant flush Reply #2 – July 16, 2008, 06:24:02 PM AFIK the good stuff is off the market... Dupont used to market a cleaner that was mostly lye, would leave one clean as new(also you knew if it was going to leak any time soon LOL)... Had to add a neutralizer(soda)to stop the process after it was flushed a couple of times... I haven't seen anything in recent years that was worth taking home...Advance or AZ has new radiators for about $80-$90 for the std two core(same rad as Mustang)... The Heavy Duty three core is $30-$40 more... Quote Selected

Coolant flush Reply #7 – July 17, 2008, 01:58:58 PM What about Iso Alc as a sub for the vinegar?I read that the vinegar can eat the metals in a radiator?I just picked up a back flush kit and some of the prestone super flush stuff. Guess we'll see what happens. Quote Selected

Coolant flush Reply #11 – July 30, 2008, 02:07:50 AM Well... I flushed it... and then the water pump took a shiznit, go figure. The pee hole was a peeing LOL. Likely the problem the whole time anyways. So I have started the tear down. Been working 14 days straight so the Cougar will have to wait till the next few days. I have the pump ready to go on.
