Electric Turbo Coupe fan Question

I recently Aquired a completely rust free turbo coupe. However the electric fans are wired up to a switch. when I hit the swith only the larger fan, that on the passenger side turns on. Are these supposed to be controlled by a thermastat so that they can remain running after the car shuts off to cool the turbo?

All wires appear to be connected, anyone have any idea why only one fan spins?

Please help.

If I not mistaken no the cooling fan cools the radiator. Let the car sit at idle for around a minute befor turning the car off so that the turbos can fans can slow down.

Originally your dual fan setup was controlled by a fan controller/relay -- it would turn the fans on and off automatically depending on the coolant temp.  Chances are, the controller or a fuse went out at some point, and someone re-wired it to the switch you speak of.  The 2nd fan was designed to come on at fairly high temps.  I suspect whoever did the wiring just skipped the 2nd fan for ease.  And yes, they were designed to stay on after you shut the car down depending on the coolant temp.

When i had the 2.3L in my car i also had issues with the fans.
My fans never stayed on after the car was shut off, there not supposed too.
It's either your ircm relay box or (which is more likely and was also my problem) your coolant temp sensor in the lower intake.
This sensor controls the on off of the fans and if not operating properly they will not work.
