Help ... I am new .. Shift rod plastic?

Hello all,

I just bought a 1988 Tbird Tubbo Coupe with 31K orginal miles.
Absoultly beautiful car that is loaded. I will post pics as soon as I can.
The only problem is when I got it home the floor shifter plastice rod is broken ( I have it out ). I have known this to be called gerbil balls.
I can't find this anywhere. The ford part number is E7SZ7E148A ROD - TRANS CONTROL SELECTOR.

Please, can anyone help me find this part.

Thank you,

James

Thank you so much for responding.

I do not have my camera with me but I can describe the part better.

Again it is for a 1988 TBIRD Turbo Coupe automatic floor shifter.

The part is underneath the push button -T- handle and travels 9 1/8" inches down the pipe (SHIFTER ARM) to the control selector lever where then it pushes it down (when the button is pushed) to be able to move the shifter to a selected gear.

The part is 9 1/8 " long, white hard plastic with balls - LOL,OMG
ANYWAY, it can be compared to a string of pearls 3/8" in diameter.

Again thank you,

James

LOL...ummm...no comment on the 9 inch rod thingy with balls, but I too would like to see pics of your 'Birdy!

Ummm, maybe post a want ad in the Wanted section for a TC auto shifter? I have one for an '86 Cougar Xr7, but I think it had a different transmission, and wouldn't work in an '88...

Good luck, and pics, pics, pics!

1 - The shifter before yanking the handle off.
2 - The white thingy just sticking out the top.
3 - The greasy bunch of "Gerbil balls" finally exposed.
.

GERBIL BALLS - shifter

Hello again,

I think I found a solution.

I found a parts bin a t a local trans shop that had a bin full of E5TZ-148A gerbil balls (BLACK, mine is WHITE). This is 5/8" shorter than mine but I should be able to cut a piece of mine off and use it anyway.

I will post later when I intall it.

I would still like to have the orginal, so it anyone has one let me know.

Thank you all for trying.

James
