Doesn't mean the prices would drop.

Funny, innit? Some hack says on Friday that it'll hit $150, so the speculators jump all over it and push the price up almost $11. On Tuesday another hack says it'll hit $50 and the speculators ignore him. Guess we know who the speculators are rooting for...

Oh, and it's at about $5.25/gallon here...

I have heard this guy speak on the radio, and he seems to know what he is talking about.  It's very sobering... Most of you are too young to remember the 70's oil crises and gas rationing. It CAN happen.

We might all want to start buying bicycles soon.

Where do you people come up with all this junk????

Sure we may be in a oil pinch(and I was there in '73)... Although they are way overdue, there are alternatives being developed... You really think we won't have at least a few of these in place by 20whenever???

More doomsdayer's trying to make a buck...

How were you there in '73 when your profile says you were born April 22, 1990?!?!

I figured some people would say it was just gloom and doom.  But hey, people thought the Roman empire would last forever too.. ;)

I have read similar articles, just as long, just as well cited, on the converse side of the issue claiming we have more than 100 years of oil left...  I myself haven't picked a side between the two.  I'm just going to live my life and deal with things as they come.

Oh, and to respond to the actual thread topic - I'm desperately trying to find a turbo coupe in good condition.  ~20 mpg's beats the 15-16 I'm getting now.

Yesterday the gaz raised at $6.82/Gallon (1.51/Liter), What a !!!.

But the gaz price caused the end of My econoline, I sed the truck 3 weeks ago (eat too much fuel), and I rebuilted a little 3 cylinder Firefly a friend donated to Me over a month ago (changed the motor, body repair, ect, ect), and it's really a funny car, absolutely not expensive on gaz (45-50mpg), reliable, and fun to drive.

I use My thunderbird ONLY when I go here and here in the weekend, otherwise I use My "new" 1991 3cyl Firefly :D

google petrodollar.  If you look at how that happened, and how nixon ended the bretton woods agreement, and the "fuel crisis" that followed afterward, a lot of things start making sense.

Oil is the only think keeping the dollar from falling to the euro.  Things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better.

p.s. some say we have more than 250 years worth of oil (based on our current consumption rate) on our own soil.

I'm just paying the price right now.  I have cut back on my driving (outside o' the daily commute) by going to stores closer to my home or...just not going out.

Also, I'm glad that my Vic is getting good fuel economy right now; it's been averaging a little under 21MPG since the warm weather returned.  It may not seem *that* great, but I've seen this car's fuel economy as low as 12.5MPG, so...I'm quite thankful. :D

Make sure your tires are properly inflated (doubly important in the rain!!!), take it *easy* accelerating, don't tailgate in traffic; it's more efficient to give yourself enough room to slow down rather than tap the brakes because you're too close. I had to learn all these tricks when I got my Explorer -- it makes the T-Bird look downright efficient by comparison. When I'm low on gas and drive the Explorer in "low consumption mode" it makes a HUGE difference, though it can be maddening when I really want to get somewhere. I found that having a tach really helps since I can roughly gauge my fuel consumption better with the tach needle than with the speedo.

Cars are going to have to shed weight in the years to come. For example, the Toyota Camry has gained a lot of size and weight in the last 16-17 years. I choose this as an example because there are so many on the road. One reason our cars are so efficient is that they're so light (and another is because they sacrifice a LOT of hp to gain low-end torque).
