Lincoln Mark VII

So I might be giving my brother my 95 T-bird as his 141,000 mile 98 Dodge Intrepid (yeah I'm amazed it's still running as it's a Mopar :hick: ) is starting to develope some really bad electrical problems. I'm thinking about replacing it with this: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=240349703&dealer_id=67821&car_year=1989&model=MARK7&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=25&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&make=LINC&keywords_display=&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=60638&advanced=&end_year=2009&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=16 89 Lincoln Mark VII. Any one have any experience with them? Good/bad points? I'm guessing the driving experience should be similar to the 88 T-bird I have (but a bit slower ;) ).

I am a Mark VII enthusiast.  Let me tell you that the Mark VII is the best car I have ever owned.  Do not, and I please emphasize this, DO NOT let people discourage you from buying a Mark VII due to the air suspension.  It really makes the Mark VII that much better than a T-Bird in my opinion.  Don't throw stones at me guys, please.  But the Mark VII is not just a fancy T-Bird, it is miles apart in terms of comfort, ride and power in stock form.  That 89 Mark VII has the 5.0HO which in stock form is putting out 225HP at the crank.  Granted it's not a quarter mile car by any means.  However the comfort and options it offers cannot be denied.  Take it man, you'll love it.

I love the Mark VII. It's one of the few cars I'd trade my T-Bird for (the others being a nice four-eye 'Bird, 87-88 Coug, or 90-96 300ZX). I agree with Cougarman - hold out for an LSC. Much better ride/handling, and better seats/interior as well. The LSC is to the Mark what the Sport/XR7 are to the base T-Birds and Cougars.

That's not a bad price on that one with the low miles. If it runs and drives fine then I'd go for it even though it's not a LSC.

The air suspension issue is a moot point now with all of the components being offered by Arnott at reasonable prices.

The door panels on 84-89 are pretty fragile so I would invest in a trim panel removal tool (10.00) if you have to take them off for any reason.

Other than that it's not much different than owning a T-bird.

I was under the impression from '88-'89(ones with the HO engine) ALL the Mark VIIs basically the same whether they were a LSC or whatever... I know the earlier non-LSC models had std 5.0s, but as far as the suspension, other than struts/shocks how could it really be any different???(OK the sway bars could be different)

The air springs are different on BB also

The Bill Blass didn't get the LSC suspension/wheels until 1991.

I love my mark, its been a pain in the balls because i have to scrounge money but its such a nice car. The comfort, options, power, and factory t loc and HO make it fun

I might be taking a look at it this weekend. I really, really don't want to fix my brother's  Dodge anymore so I might do this. I have to fix the AC in the 95 though as it decided it wants to not work. I still have to look into it to find out why.

I really think that it would be similar (but a bit slower) to driving my 88 T-bird. My Bird is pretty much loaded (just missing the sunroof) so it has everything that Mark VII does.

Irv if I get it and don't like it I'd trade ya for that 88 XR-7 you have ;)  Nice to meet you too btw:D . I have to get those pics I took from the show uploaded as well.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
