Hello,

My rogue idea?

I replaced my front '88 T Bird springs last summer.  Found one with a hairline crack --a complete break in one coil.  I suspected something from the way the suspension bottomed, but didn't see anything until I popped out the spring--as one loop remained in the control arm, the rest of the spring fell out.  It was a hairline crack in it with plenty of rust to show it was broke for some time.
If you have a broken spring, maybe in right turns it rubs itself to a clunk sound?  For an '86, a broken spring would not be a surprise if they were never changed out.  Have you carefully checked the springs when doing the strut work?
