88 Turbo Coupe Door ajar...

Hey guys, you are awesome at tech help and this forum rocks!!! Does anyone know why my door ajar light is on on my 88 tc.. It started out as a flicker, then constanty on. The odd thing is my interior lights go off when I close the door. I believe it to be the passenger door because when it first srtarted to happen I would open and close the door and it would go out.

Thanks!

Sounds like the little button in the door jamb needs replacing.
It's Gumby's fault.

to verify ,,
remove the nut on the door jam switch.
extract the switch with the wires.
the switch housing fliars when the nut is installed.
remove the two wires and jumper it with a paper clip.

problem gone?

replace switch.

problem still there?
jumper the other door jam switch.

if problem is still there, your tracing the black orange wire up to -
keyless entry module
or
Door chime module.
or
Tighten up the door jam nut.<<  This will pull the switch outward more and causing it to have more inward movement to disconnect when the door is closed.

do you have keyless entry?
its helpful to make notes in your sig of what vehicle you have.  Your profile says enough though.

Cool, thanks for the diagram. I tested the switches and they work. My car does not have keyless entry or illuminated entry but when I close the doors or even push the switch, my interior lights go off. These swiitches have only 2 wires.

ok,, well then take a look at the diagram again and trace out the ground wires leading from the indicator outward.

Put your radio on AM band and wiggle wiring and listen for any crackle pop noises. Intermittant problems will cause radio noise on AM.

You'll probably find one of the wires in the circuit is grounding out thus simulating the pupose of the door switch which is normally closed as well.  With the doors closed, the switches open.

I always thought that the door switches in thier static state were Normally Closed but the diagram shows thier static state as open.  maybe im bass akwards but either way,, trace the grounds or do a wiggle test and listen for pops or a flickering door ajar light.

The door ajar switch is on the door latch mechanism inside the door.
It's not the switch that turns on the dome light.

sorry , should have looked twice like my gut told me.

There is the door ajar switch which I thought was a switch only present when keyless entry was an option.

That's right, the door ajar sensors are different. They're about 1-1/4" long or so and have a single wire going to them. They can be added to any bird/cougar pretty easily, and even the base dash has a light for them (though running the wire to the warning chime and then to the back of the instrument cluster can be an adventure).
