'85 Turbo Coupe at my mercy.... Reply #18 – May 22, 2008, 11:17:31 AM QuoteThe TC shifter is different then the V-8 shifter. You need one from a V-8 car, along with the right shift cable and bracket. The automatic 1983-86 turbo cars used a C3 trans with no overdrive. Their shift pattern was PRND21 - 6 detentes. That pattern will work on AOD (PRN(D)D1) and C5 (PRND21) cars, therefore the shifter itself could probably be used. The cable does seem to be different, though. I had a C3 shifter at one point and the cable looked to me like it could be adapted to fit onto an AOD shift lever. But I don't have any proof to back that up.Anyway, it's the 1987-88 automatic TC floor shifters that you have to avoid for AOD/C5 cars...they have 7 detentes: PRN(D)D21.QuoteI'd like to change my car from a column shift to a floor shift, but I'm not sure of everything that's needed.Ivygreen, see here for info:AOD - http://www.coolcats.net/tech/advanced/floorshift_aod.htmlC5 - http://www.coolcats.net/tech/advanced/floorshift_c5.htmlThe AOD instructions came from my experience in converting my own '86 over from column to floor shift. There's a PDF of the template you need to cut a hole in the floorpan. Not really that hard to do, just scary LOL.Sorry for the hijack...now back to your regularly-scheduled thread... Quote Selected

'85 Turbo Coupe at my mercy.... Reply #20 – May 22, 2008, 01:19:51 PM Actually E-Man the 83 84 TC's used a shifter with the same 6 detents but with no cable. It had a rod attached directly to the bottom of the shift lever that went to the shift lever on the transmission. In the 83-84 TC's the transmission shift lever pointed up like the column shift cars do. Quote Selected
'85 Turbo Coupe at my mercy.... Reply #21 – May 22, 2008, 02:05:15 PM Yeah, that's right Claude. I never had the opportunity to obtain 1983-84 TC shifter parts but I do recall them being rod-activated. The parts I had were 1985-86 TC with the cable attached. It seemed weird to me that Ford would engineer different brackets, cables, etc. for the different cars, rather than work from one standard shifter. It would make retrofitting parts now a lot easier. Then again, why would Ford think of us. Quote Selected
