HO Conversion and Explorer Cam

I got the gear to do the HO conversion on "the Base".  I got a couple diffferent cams. One from an HO and another from an Explorer. Can I use the Explorer cam with out changing out the pistons?

You can use either the HO cam or the Explorer cam with E7s and the stock pistons with no problems. They both have the same HO firing order but I would use the HO cam as it is a much better cam for performance. The Explorer cam is more of a low end torque cam. You'd be much happier with the HO cam.

according to the 5.0 handbook the E7 heads will neither
raise or drop compression ratio. c c's look to be the
same. i assume because of the dished piston you can
use either cam w/o valve reliefs.

I've heard that the E6 combustion chamber is in fact 68 cc's and have seen references to support this.  I gotta dig them up.  Here's 2 pics to decide for yourself.  E6 first, then E7, both unaltered.  Swapping to the E7 WILL raise compression, but not by very much.

With E-7 heads,the compression ratio goes to 26 to 1 compression.You have to use a ricer 4 banger as a starter.LOL.
