Semi Auto Transmission

On the way home from the movies tonight, I noticed my friends Mazda(eww foreign car!) had a semi auto transmission in it. Does anyone know anything about these? I'm curious to see if one would bolt up to a 5.0l or a 3.8l. I always thought  I could get a lot more out of the 3.8 if it would only wind up more between gear shifts. Anyone ever wonder the same thing, or am I just way off on this thought?

If anyone has done anything like this, please let me know!

The 3.8L doesn't like being wound out all that much. I've done that many times with the AOD.
It's Gumby's fault.

Without a $$$$ custom adapter, chances are ZERO and NONE it would bolt up... As already mentioned the AOD can be wound up to do the same...

I would LOVE that in my cat because it would be the best of both worlds. I would love it if I had a stick but I wonder if I would tire of it in everyday driving, especially sitting in traffic (which I rarely do but hell it's gonna happen at some point!). That way I could control it exactly how I wanted to when I wanted to, and then let it do it's thing when I didn't feel like calling the shots.

tbird232ci,
What did you notice? How could I easily make the aod wind up a bit more between shifts?

Street Terminator with Manual Valve Body.  Almost "Semi-Auto".  Lets you bang through the gears like you have a clutch-less manual trans.

But its almost 700 bucks.  I got a complete T5 with all the tpuppiess for only ~550.
