5.0 throttle body diameter?

anyone know the stock throttle body diameter on an
88 tbird or cougar 5.0? the 86 mustang was 58mm
and the 87-8 was 60 mm. i can find no reference
for the other lower perfomance 302's. thanks!

just found something in the mustang 5.0 hand book.
all non ho engines were 50 mm. if someone knows

anyone ever run a 58 or 60 mm setup on your stock
5.0 ? did it run lousy or lose low end. i was trying
to come up w/nos pieces but none are left in the
50 mm setup. i havent checked the 58 mm 86
mustang pieces because of the above mentioned fears.
nothing is bad on mine .new just looks neater. may have
to do a little blasting.--irv
flow is about 340 vs.close to 600 cfm[58 vs 60 mm]

I'm running with a 65mm, but have 19# injectors and the pressure dialed down so it doesn't run too rich. Runs good, but idles poorly sometimes.

If you install an H.O upper and a 60mm spacer and throttlebody, they look like the stock pieces externally.

Grab an HO upper intake and 60 mm TB.  The lowers are the same between HO & SO and are the real bottleneck of the setup.  Port the one you have or find another and port that out.  Here's a good how to:  http://www.veryuseful.com/mustang/tech/engine/IntakePorting.pdf

Do that, grab a set of the aluminum HO valve covers, remove the oil baffle on the passenger side one and install some 1.7:1 ratio roller rockers with the HO covers (they won't fit under the SO valve covers)

Power gains EVERYWHERE in the RPM range without going nuts.

i dont have dual exhaust on yet .only the factory one
into two w/walker turbo lers[17736]. wont the
ho upper stuff.ruin the low end? too much in and not
enough out.i have all the ho upper stuff and the 87
mustang computer laying around.  i assume 1.7 rockers wont
fit under th steel valve covers. i want to keep them because
of the factory markings and decal.what is the fuel injector
flow rate-stock vs ho? would i have to change them too?
probably should just build a factory long block ho.ford
doesnt sell the 225 hp crate motor anymore. iguess i should
just leave it alone and enjoy.

The stock injectors are 14#,the H.O is 19#.You can't use the 'Stang computer until you install the H.O cam.The 'Stang upper and throttlebody will help you out a little, and no,you don't need the 19# injectors to use it.

without going to shortys and duals?

The headers and duals would REALLY help, but without them, the intake is still a step up.If you want a factory look, factory Stang headers can be found on Ebay for $20.00 and less, and factory H-Pipes can also be had for cheap.

ive got an nos set of headers and nos mustang hpipe.
will probably go w/ a walker or other pipe with only
2cats . that why i wanted factory bolts. havent got that far
yet.i also have a new in the box 60mm t/body for the 87-8
mustang. just not enough time or money.[lots of parts
though]. have got a set of ford racing rockers but didnt
know if they would clear steel covers.had put a set on my
93 f150 and shorty headers. everyone said the speed density
wouldnt take it . but it ran fine.

If you need a little extra clearance for the rockers, you can double the valve cover gaskets.

You're correct .  The rockers won't clear the steel covers.  I'm not sure doubling the valve cover gaskets will work, but it is a good idea though.....Worth a shot.  Crank it by hand once you get it together to see.
