17x10.5 wheel fitment April 28, 2008, 05:16:13 PM If I converted the rear to 5 lug, removed the quad shocks, would 17x10.5 wheels fit on the car,or do I need spacers, etc?Just thinking about some wicked tires on the back. Quote Selected
17x10.5 wheel fitment Reply #1 – April 28, 2008, 07:33:25 PM I had 16"x10"s in the back, no quads, and could still get my fist between the tire and inner fender. But I did have the lip rolled. I had a wider aftermarket rearend. I plan to put 18"x12"s under the new car. Unless your's is very different from my 87 sport, you should be fine if you get your spacing correct. Quote Selected
17x10.5 wheel fitment Reply #2 – April 28, 2008, 07:39:36 PM I'd be using a TC rear,Explorer axles and brakes.Does that change anything? Quote Selected
17x10.5 wheel fitment Reply #3 – April 28, 2008, 08:10:39 PM It depends on how wide the rear will be, and what wheels you are using. I can't help with that, just tell you physically what room there is in the wheelwell, based on my experience. I had custom Simmons 3pc wheels made, and the 9"rear was 2" wider per side on purpose.I wish I could get 12" wide wheels in the front.... Quote Selected

17x10.5 wheel fitment Reply #5 – April 28, 2008, 08:44:00 PM There was a member here a while back that had a white '83 that he used 10's on the back. I think he used the narrower Fox Mustang (Ranger) axles though.(46TBird perhaps?) Quote Selected

17x10.5 wheel fitment Reply #14 – April 30, 2008, 06:07:11 PM Yep,I do know what you mean.I am trying to get the bodywork finished and let everything else go for a while.I have so much going on with the car, nothing is really getting done.I will probably do a 5 lug upgrade later on.I have an extra TC rear with 3.55's out back, and it can be worked at any time.Right now,I'm going to focus on the paint for the car.I'm tired of looking at 5 different colors. It's giving me a headache.
