sapping from cfi to carb??? Reply #1 – April 24, 2008, 06:23:24 PM I can't help but wonder why you want to do this and what you want to end up with.If you are having problems, there are people on here that can help you fix it.What the "brain" controls:1. Fuel system: Fuel pump, Fuel injectors and controls the fuel/air mixture ratio. Controls fast idle and heat control valve for warm-up.2. Ignition system: Controls spark advance.3. Emission system: EGR valve, Thermactor valve and carbon canister purge valve. Can you have a hybrid set-up that leaves the "brain" in control of somethings? Probably.Let the EEC (brain) control the fuel pump? yes but, the pressure is too high for a carb. If you have the two pump system, you can bypass the high pressure pump and use the low pressure pump in the tank. If you have one pump, you have to change it to a low pressure pump.Let the EEC control the spark advance? Maybe. It may be worth a try. Otherwise you will have to switch to a duraspark II ignition system. That would mean a distributor, ignition module, maybe a different coil (not sure about that) and the associated wiring.Of course there is mechanical stuff. Throttle linkage, AOD TV linkage and cruise control linkage. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure others will think of some more stuff. Quote Selected
sapping from cfi to carb??? Reply #2 – April 24, 2008, 06:39:47 PM the cfi and the 2 brl ford carb will swap with no problemas to the aod tv cables, etc . Just pull off the cfi and put the carb back on.Easiest way arount the dizzy is to use a points type dizzy and switch the points out with the pertronics points eliminator kit. The in tank low pressure fuel pump will give you 6-8 psi at 42 gallons /hour which is what the carb wants. Quote Selected

sapping from cfi to carb??? Reply #5 – April 25, 2008, 08:34:19 PM I'll be glad when I get around to throwing the carb FAR from my '80. Antiquated piece of .Just because you decide you want a "simpler, cleaner" engine, doesn't mean it will perform any better.JrP covered it pretty well if that's the route you want. Welcome to 1979 if you do go that way. :hick: Quote Selected
