180 tstat ?

anyone switch from the 195 to a 180 thermostat like
the old mustang efi mod on their 5.0? did it help performance
or did your mileage go to ? is it worth doing or does it
send the ecm into rich mode. did it on my 86 capri 5.0
that i had before the cougar .ran a little cooler and still
would get 22 on the road with a3.27 gear. only put 300
miles on it though in the 2-1/2 years i had it. thanks for
any input. sorry for the stupid ?'s but you guys drive your
stuff and have more real world experience. with the late
model stuff . --irv toms

I run a 180* thermostate because I only drive my T-bird in warm weather. I found it helps when I have the A/C on. With the 195* one the car ran a bit warmer than the 180* one but I've noticed no loss of gas mileage with the cooler thermostate.

The engine runs more efficiently at 195*, but theoretically should make a bit more power at the cooler temp... Still, I doubt few folks could tell any real difference on the old ass-O-meter...

As far as going "rich", ain't happening... By 100* with hot o2 sensors the EEC goes into closed loop....

No real difference for most people as stated.  I notice it on really hot days though....Anything over 90* outside and the Cougar was a DOG with a 195* stat in my old setup....Switched to the 180* and things were MUCH better.  I won't run a 5.0 without one.
