Of course, then you have the real nutty ones, like us, who are raising our kids with a love of these cars.
5 out of 5 of our children want a Cat or Bird as their first car.... how cool are we?  :rollin:

BTW, my kids also listen to 'our' music..... so do their friends.... oh and one of their friends just bought a 95 Cougar because it looks similar to ours and he loves ours. When he got the chance, he jumped at it, so we might have a tag along for Cat Jam this year.

I don't really have any special love for any of them.  I just like them I guess.  I also like it because I know so much about the  things I can tell what the hell the weird noise is when I'm 400+ miles away from home.

Don't ask my girlfriend if I love the car.  Lies I tell you!  LIES!

We were all new once, and we are all still here.
Tbirdsps is a good example of a new addition..

As with most "statistic's" you can get whatever you want.
If "Most people show up and then sell there bird's" is what you want to see.. then that is what you will see..

it's a matter of perception

That might be true... if these cars were fast. Fact is, they're not. Not even close. The slowest car available for sale nowadays would probably run rings around an 80's T-Bird and still get 35-40 MPG while doing it.

These cars are about style. They can be made fast, yes, but style is their main selling point. Problem is that their style doesn't jive with most young people. Yes, I know, this board has several under-20 members, but most people under 20 years old would rather be in a Civic with a fart can and an aluminum extension ladder bolted to the trunk pretending to be a spoiler. Most young people driving a T-Bird or Cougar do so because they're "stuck with it" - it was willed to them, or given to them by a family member, or they bought it for a few hundred bucks as a first car. Many end up growing to love their old, slow-but-pretty American iron, but most end up resenting the car because it isn't "trendy" and selling it to us nut cases that actually like them so they can buy a Civic just like their buddies.

I've said it before: These cars are actually victims of their own styling. They look great, yes, but people that actually want old cars want cars that look old. They don't want a 20+ year old "classic" that looks like a late 90's car but performs like an early 80's one.

I agree. Almost all my friends that see pics of these cars look at me like im crazy and hate them. I love them to death, Id trade a brand new BMW, in all seriousness for a nice turbo coupe.

It could also be that  his site is easier to find now on a web search as well.  There were plenty of those kids around 5 years ago.  Around here there were probably more than there are now.  I haven't seen a fox catbird for sale around me--or even in the want ads--for months.  The only one was the guy with the black '87 who posts here once in a while.  Before that it was nothin' for a good 5 months...

So a BMW is rice then?  You ever sit in a 335i 2 door with the convertible hardtop?  Sweet car!  That turbo coupe would have to be in perfect condition....

NO dude see heres the deal. Messed up people like Mason (and I too) see TWO things. American Iron.....and everything else. Imports of ANY country of origin ricer or not get lumped all into the same bag which is labeled " i wouldnt drive if someone paid me to drive it". NOT defending this position, just rationalizing it. Maybe not even that...EXPLAINING it anyway :hick: :giggle:

Yes I am extreeeeeemely intolerant.

And Mason hit it on the head just as I was posting that....they look hideous. I like early-late 90s bimmers. They just haaaad to mess with it. Dumbasses.

THis is the way i look at it as well, i would die for a 95 M5 but then i would just end up turning it into a Mafia Sentinel (From GTA3). I loved my cougar since i was 5 when i was 5 I said Grandma when can i drive that, fast foward 14 - 15 years and I was. I should be again soon too i got a decent job so i can get the stuff repaired that needs be.

I haven't seen a lot of new people selling cars. It's more, people that have a problem to fix. once they get it fixed it seems you never see them again until there's another problem.

As for me and my cougar. I sold a mint 78 monarch with 60,000 miles on it.  I saw an 87 driving around and said I wanted it. The body lines and curves were something that most other cars didn't have. (I call that style) and today I still think of it the same way. It's still has what other cars lack.
My 03 monty is a lightning bolt compared to our cars. but after you sit in one, you beg to get out. It's more uncomfortable than a pair of FILA shoes.
My wife even says, "there's nothing like the ride in a cougar. you never realize that you're going that fast, until you look down."

i would drive any car that anyone gave me. BMW or otherwise. At the same time, I like the cougar's and bird's cause they fit me. Litterly. I'm about 6'5" and drive a neon everyday. Its almost painful...

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Now explain to me after reading the above, how this is rational?  Just because it's an import doesn't mean it's rice.  Just because it's made in America doesn't mean it's ;)
