A/C clutch broke in the compressor

Literally.

The clutch broke internally, when I remove the hub the pulley slides off.  I didn't realize that was a problem until I saw the old clutch and the new one.  The inner part of the clutch is still in the compressor and I seriously doubt I can get it out using a puller.

Anyone come across this problem?  I am thinking about giving it to a mechanic and giving up.

Yup...but the pulley came off before that, because the center part of the pulley broke apart from the outside part (that has the ribs to and goes around the belt)

I've never done this before so I'm kinda stumped.  And I don't want to pull on what's left of it because I'm afraid I'll ruin the entire compressor.

Hope this does you some good...

Bearing is on clutch, but can be slid onto the outer shaft(I believe a clip retains it, but there isn't one in the box)... The face of the clutch assembly mounts on the inner shaft...

Cool, that's what I think I am seeing.  The inner half of the clutch is still with the shaft, complete with bearing. The outer half (with the pulley ribs) slid off once I removed the outer hub.

I'm not sure how to pull the rest of the clutch out, but I know the 3 arm puller I got is absolutely useless. :(

I think I'm gonna putter over to the local mechanic and have him do it. Either that or quit my job. :)

The bearing is just setting on the clutch pulley... Normally it will be down inside it... Surprisingly I had no difficulty removing either the outer or inner portions of the clutch from either compressor... Did need bump the bearing from the pulley, but it wasn't a tight fit at all... New one went in easily as well...
