rant..

well as of approximately 2 hours ago i am officially unemployed again.  the story behind it all is this.  They said i had 4 no call no shows.  two of them i do agree with. One of those days was finding about liver cancer with my step father and i felt it would be in best intrest not to work and cause disturbances with the other employee's.  The other day was when my brother had a baby and i spent all day at the hospital.  However there are two days they said i missed that i do not agree with... both of them fall on sunday one towards the end of aug and the other towards the end of sept.
my schedual has always been wed, thurs, friday, saturday nights.  the only time ive worked on sunday is when they ask me to..  all of the management has said that the scheduals are generally incorrect and for us to work our normal days... without a need to really check the schedual.
Just wanted to vent a little bit.  well in a few hours ill be out and about job hunting.  hope i can find something soon.

That sucks man...  I hate being unemployed.  But all I really have to pay for is gas and insurance so I guess I'm lucky.

Good luck finding another job!

What did you do?

As a supervisor at my place of employment (I started at the bottom like everyone else),we truly frown on No Call No Shows as well. It's really not that hard to pick up the phone and make the call to the boss and let them know what's going on.I would have to side with your employer (ex-employer).I hope you find another job, but, when you have a job, that also means responsibility, even when things in your life are going wrong (or whatever). My wife lost 7 members of her family in a 12 month span, and I missed a good amount of work, but,I picked the phone up and took the minute to inform them what was going on.You're actually pretty lucky they gave you 4 chances (2 of which you agree with). Most wouldn't get that many. So,you shouldn't be ranting, you should be taking responsibility for not being responsible.

the first two i wasnt schedualed to work.  one of them i was on my way into work when i found out and personally talked to them  the other i had called.  but even calling in at walmart doesnt excuse you because you have to call a 1800 number and get a code THEN call in and give them the code.  i didnt find this out until recently  I am heading in there right now to see if they have my check ready.  also i am going to look at the first two days they said i didnt show up.  the entire week for each one to see what days i DID work and what i DIDNT work.  then tomorrow i will be having a meeting with the store manager.  after im done at walmart today im off to put applications and resume's in about half a dozen to a dozen places that i know are hiring in the area... thing of it is... i get 8.6 mpg lol gotta make my trips worthwhile.

Sorry about hearing that you lost your job.
I haven' t worked for someone since I was 18 (24 years).
I find that being self employed, you don't have to answer to the man.
People are always looking for someone to do something. I'm sure you'll find something.

id love to be self employed but what i want to do in life it would be very difficult to make a living unless all the cards would fall in the right place.  i am wanting to go to school for fish and wildlife biology.  i figure i get me a job then i can focus on getting me situated in school and work on my dream... all the while settling the whole dispute with walmart

Afraid I have to go with Vinnie on this one. However not as a supervisor, but as just another worker. No call No Show is termination almost anyplace.. Actually I say almost because I haven’t seen everyplace, but every place I have seen that is the case. And your employer was pretty lenient allowing 4 times. As for your excuses, Finding out your father had cancer, Brother and a baby. That makes no difference to an employer, they have a job that needs done and you have agreed to do it. And you didn’t, THAT’S what makes a difference to them. Had one employer (ALCOA) put it pretty simple and easy to understand.
“There is only one valid excused absence and that is YOUR death. And even then you need to have a Doctors note to prove it”

And failing to check the schedule is also you neglecting your responsibility. You can say “without a need to really check the schedule” but under the cirspoogestances I would hope you learn that is not the case and only an excuse.

You will get through this and likely better off for it. Is a good opportunity to learn if you choose to. Good luck on the job search

Sorry you lost your job that sucks for anyone. I do have to side with Vinnie and Jim on this one too. No Calls and No Shows also create hardships and hard feelings with fellow co-workers cause someone else has to pick up the slack. Regardless of what you are told, it is always your responsibility to check the schedule. If the schedule does not look right ask a manager about it. It's called CYA. Where I work now we are on a points system 1 point for being absent regardless unless it is death in immediate family. Half a point for being late no matter what. We have 3 levels of disciplinary action. When you reach 9 points you are put on final notice and 90 days probation, with termination for any violation. It takes 12 month from date point was acquired for it to be erased.
Main thing to always remember: "Your Job is Your Responsibility"

fall off the horse, you get back on... and learn from it.  In today's world with nearly everyone using cell phones, it shouldn't be hard to call.  Good luck.

I dont think anyone has the whole story.  To side with your employer based on the information you gave us does not seem right.  You said you can confirm two days but not the other two.  Looks like you need to get your facts and then make the call as to if your employer was right.

Of the two that you have some facts on,,,,,,

First one- you called in and talked to them because you were not on the schedule.

Second one-you did call in but gotta call an 800 number and get this code of some sorts.  Having to do this in itself tells you how much "real" authority your managers have.  It also tells me wal mart does not even trust supervisors on the local level,, thus they are noting as well.
As for the call in to get the code or whatever,, make them show you where your training documentation has your signature showing you were made aware of this.

the remaining two,, you can not confirm or deny they are correct,,,,
ill suspect they wont even be able to produce accurate documentation going back that far due to the bone heads that they put in charge of facilities like that.

SO,, in all reality, thier letting you go is based on a wide range of assumptions.  They say you have (((((FAILED)))))))) to call in 4 times.  I say make em show you in writting.

If you have called in twice then you are doing the right thing.  If there are two more instaces,, find out whats up with those two.

All in all,, jobs are too hard to find anyway.  Do your best to cover yourself cause really,,,,,there isnt anyone who cares more about you than yourself.  At then end of the day,, its only you.
