Used car prices – Barrett Jackson effect

Is it just me or does there just seem to be lots of overpriced cars being listed for sale lately?

I’m not talking about someone who might have a really nice, low mileage (enter car here) for example and is reaching for the stars hoping someone has to have it and will bite. I’m talking about the beater that’s sitting rusting away in the backyard being used as a dog house.

That is until the seller is flipping through the TV channels and sees a car that looks like theirs selling for a bazillion dollars at the BJ auction.

Sad thing is by the time the seller realizes the car isn’t worth what they thought; the dog no longer even wants to stay in it.

If you have a great example please post the picture, specs and price here.

Please stay objective, and if someone posts a car which is really worth the bucks don’t beat him up, maybe we can all learn what real prices should be in this price inflated age of TV auctions.

Also keep sentimental value out of this too. I love my 83 TBird, to me it’s worth $xx,xxx  but realistically I might get $5000.00 on a good day.

Have fun and I’ll start.

Of course prices are always negotiable... but the starting price should somewhat close to fair market value.

You would have never came to look at the TC if I listed it for $5000.

I was in a good mood that day and came down to $850 and you still didn't take it! :hick:

You missed a good one!;)

Dream sellers don't factor in public desirability per car model.

Only Mopar I would ever want is a '73 charger SE Brougham, Red wit black vinyl top, 340, pistol grip. Just like I had when I was a kid.

If it was a Z28, it would actualy get that, crazy I know, but it would. Like the mustangs, it's a popularity thing. I know someone at work that is into them and has books on some of this stuff. He has a Z28 that's had work done to it, a bit like that, and he paid around that for it.
