Re: stock FLOOR shifter for AOD from 88 sport Reply #4 – March 20, 2005, 01:21:07 PM Shame302,It may be a dumb question, but is there anything you're in need of that you might trade for the shifter? I don't have much, but you never know? One question; would you be including the support plate that the shifter sits on? I've read that there is one, and that a shifter mounted in a car without that plate has the shifter sitting too low. Thanks for your consideration. Fordman3 Quote Selected
Re: stock FLOOR shifter for AOD from 88 sport Reply #5 – March 20, 2005, 04:38:53 PM the plate is actually part of the floor board, i installed my floor shifter in my red car without that plate, and it sits very nicely i think, if i have the pic on my host, i should be able to post it for you if youd like Quote Selected

Re: stock FLOOR shifter for AOD from 88 sport Reply #7 – March 22, 2005, 01:09:46 PM Tbird232ci,Thanks for the offer. Yeah, if you don't mind, shoot me a picture of your floor shifter. I went to your link; you've got 2 good-looking cars. Four years ago I bought an '88 TC automatic for $900, and I had to tow it home because the fuel pump was out. Then the turbo went, the exhaust went, the brakes went, the suspension went, blah, blah, blah, then I hit a deer and destroyed the front end, then I toasted the A4LD, THEN as I was towing it home with my 3-day old F150, a drunk 16-yr-old ran me off the road and I lost F150, TC and all. Can you say money pit? You got a great deal for $500. I had one question; is the tach in the TC instrument cluster functional, and if so, did you do the mod to convert it from a 4-cyl to a 6-cyl so it reads correct? I have an '84 Cougar LS w/ the 3.8 and I plan to put an '83 TC cluster in that has a tach (and not much else). Eric @ CoolCats.net shows the conversion for '85 and up, but not for '83/'84. I know your car is the newer style than mine, but was the mod difficult? I have never messed with circuitry and resistors, so tell me what I'm in for. Thanks.shame302,If I have a column-shift right now, is the cable something I have to have? Again, I've never done any work on a tranny. I read on CoolCats.net that I will have to open the valve body; is this true, and if so, what does that entail? Thanks for the info. If I need the cable, your price of $50 is fair, even though I may need to hold off 'til my next paycheck to pay for it. If somebody comes along before me, don't hold it for me if you don't need to. I appreciate it. Fordman3 Quote Selected

Re: stock FLOOR shifter for AOD from 88 sport Reply #9 – March 22, 2005, 04:14:36 PM thats the only pic i can find, but you can see the shifter bezel sits almost flush with the panel in the console, if yours sits lower, its very easy to use some washers to shim it upas for my tach, its slightly functional, its reads the RPMS, but not the correct RPMS, i never calibrated it since the tach in my car is meant for a 5.0, and im going to be swapping one in Quote Selected
Re: stock FLOOR shifter for AOD from 88 sport Reply #10 – March 22, 2005, 09:04:41 PM that looks sweet.ive never had to do the collumn shifter too floor shifter conversion. i know you need these parts. i know that something has to be done with the tranny, but i dont belive its difficult. let me know if you do want the shifter and cable. somebody wants the cable but id rather sell it complete.i might be able to throw in the plastic pannel with the opening for the shifter if i didnt throw it out. i cant stand having things sitting around cluttering so i may have. Re: stock FLOOR shifter for AOD from 88 sport Reply #11 – March 22, 2005, 11:38:31 PM youll need the shifter, the cable, and a bracket that mounts the cable to the tranny, and a little creativity on the end of the cableas for the part of the tranny, you have to drop the valve body, loosen a large nut, pull a pin and rotate the shift lever 180*, put the pin back in, tighten the nut, and put the valve body back inthe swap is more intimitading than it is hard Quote Selected
Re: stock FLOOR shifter for AOD from 88 sport Reply #12 – March 23, 2005, 01:33:32 PM shame302,Would you still have the bracket that Tbird232ci is referring to? That would be a cool deal, especially if you still had the console panel for the shifter. Again, please bear with me for a little bit; I've got some other parts possibly in the middle of a sale and may have some cash coming - if you haven't heard back from me in a few days, that doesn't mean I'm not still interested, I may just be waiting on some more money. And again, don't hold onto the parts for me if somebody else can pay quicker. I hope to let you know something within a week or less hopefully.Tbird232ci,I've got a possibly dumb question for you. To remove the valve body, do I have to drop the tranny, or even drain the fluid? I'm hoping not. Is there room to work up under there? Keep in mind the only way I've got to work on this car is on my back with the front wheels up on ramps. Oh, can you go into a little more detail about the "little creativity" for the cable? Thanks a bunch for all your help!Fordman3 Quote Selected
Re: stock FLOOR shifter for AOD from 88 sport Reply #13 – March 23, 2005, 10:42:36 PM nope, i tossed out the tranny bracket. sorry. somebody wanted the whole swap. i had it but never recived any money so i tossed some of the stuff because it was hanging around. somebody recently wanted what i have left but i never recived payment for that either. i understand...stuff happnes. anyway, somebody wants just the cable. id rather sell the whole shifter and cable assy. if you dont want it let me know so i can sepperate the cable from the shifter and get that out to him. ill post here when i get a chance to see if the console plate is laying around. thanks...john Quote Selected
Re: stock FLOOR shifter for AOD from 88 sport Reply #14 – March 24, 2005, 02:06:46 AM to drop the valve body, the tranny pan has to come off, draining all the fluid, then removing i think 14 bolts that hold it in, you will get drenched with tranny fluid, i did mine on ramps, and it was a little low, i would have much rather had it on 4 jack standsthe creativity, i used a bolt and a few nuts, to find a way to attach the shift cable to the shift lever on the transmission, so it was able to actuate, but not bind up, i actually broke part of the cable because it was binding, so i had to repair it, then rig that little setup, ill have to snap a pic of two of it Quote Selected
