Are you talking about the Mach 460 sound system?  If so, I believe that came out in the mid 90's.  So if you have it in your thunderbird it's added in....?  I always thought about doing that.  It'd be nice to keep stock components but sound nice so I could say, "yeah, that's a factory sound system" and be mostly truthful.  :D

Anyway, for you, I'd say the easiest way is to use that adapter to pick up 12v sources, ground and dimmer, then rerun speaker wire to your speakers.  This uses the headunits built in amp (but won't sound anywhere near a 460 or even thunderbird premium sound system IMO).

What headunit is running the mach system?  The one from the mustang?  Is it CD?  Did you swap over the speakers and amps from the mustang?

dang, that's sick!  why don't you want to keep it!  running just an aftermarket deck with speakers won't get anywhere near that system!

Also, can you send me a picture of the Ford CD deck in your dash?!?  :D

really?!?  So it's a cassette deck with CD in the trunk?  What is so bad about it?  I've heard them before and they've always sounded pretty god for factory Ford....?

hahahaha!  So now I see the problem.  What are headunit are you swapping in?  I'd say just run new wiring to the speakers and you'll be good..

I have the Mach 460 in my SN95 GT and it's one of the better factory systems I've heard.  The Mustang factory set-up didn't have a changer in the trunk.  It had a cassette and CD in the dash.  Maybe what you have is a mishmash of parts with some Mach 460 components.  Before swapping stuff out, you should go through the whole system and be sure that it's all there and all working as it should be.  The T-Bird's Premium sound can't even compare to the Mach 460, so something's gotta be wrong.

I'd also like to see the mirror mounted tweeters, if you can post a pic.

This used to be my vehicle, I believe the problem is that either the paper in the speakers has dry-rotted and cracked (120 degree temps here in the desert), or the head unit is dirty (sand from the desert here). The system was a complete oem mach 460 setup, speakers, harness, amps, head unit, etc. The tweeters I mounted behind the dash speaker grills, not in the doors under the mirrors. The 10 disc changer was from the same year town car, I simply grafted the oem changer harness into the oem mach 460 system, not hacked as I used the engineering schematics from both vehicles (not the evtms). The system used to sound tremendous when I first installed it back in the 90's, as I said before, I suspect time and heat has taken it's toll. FYI, I have another new mach 460 system that came out of a mustang convertible of the same era, all speakers, amps, harnesses, head unit/cd player, etc. All sitting in boxes...
