Quick question before I start January 29, 2008, 02:27:05 PM Well the starter puked on my 87 bird (3. today. I havent brought it in to fix it yet but the auto parts guy said I will need to remove the motor mount and lift the engine a bit to remove it. Anybody know if this is true or if there are any other tricks to look for. Its raining now and will be snowing soon and dont want to spend any more time than necessary on the floor of the garage. Thanks in advance for any help or insight. Quote Selected

Quick question before I start Reply #3 – January 29, 2008, 10:10:46 PM Thats what I figured as well. But it must be my semi lucky day as I got under the car and found the lower bolt had come loose and allowed the starter to get crooked and jam. Starts fine now but havent figured how it loosened up yet Quote Selected

Quick question before I start Reply #6 – January 29, 2008, 10:34:51 PM what i use a swivel drive socket and a long extension with a breaker bar through the headers to get to the top bolt. thats prolly why hes talkin about lifting the engine, at least i think, so its easier for his lazy ass to get to the other bolts. the starter is the #1 easiest part IMO to remove on our cars. just get some jack stands, lose the front wheels and get up inside the the passenger side and get to that top bolt. Quick question before I start Reply #8 – January 29, 2008, 11:39:51 PM 3.8 starter sucks compared to a 5.0...5.0 its 10 minutes start to finish... 3.8 took me 3 hours and only got one bolt in... I didn't take off the motor mount, but by the time I got the original starter shimmied out, the motor mount was broken. Quote Selected
Quick question before I start Reply #9 – January 30, 2008, 06:33:54 AM I keep looking at google earth but I dont know how often the image updates since I have yet to see my house as it looks now. I only have 3 birds outside but it still looks like before we bought it. I can still search my old address in FL and see a mustang and bird at my old place. Look me up in the spring if you are ever near by Quote Selected
