Before and After - 1973 XR7

I know it's not a Fox, but I thought I'd share anyway. The very first "cool" car I ever bought was a 1973 Cougar XR7. I bought it my Senior year of high school in 1977. I attached a pic of it the day I got it. Pardon the pics, they're scans of py shots. I had it for a couple of years and it ended up in the hands of my brother's friend. He put some mags on it and promptly pulled out in front of a train. As a testament to how tough these cars are, he was alone in the car, thankfully, and did not get a scratch. As a further testament to their toughness, do you know what he told my brother when he explained the accident? "There I was sitting in the car after just being creamed by a train and do you know what? It was still running! I had to turn it off." RIP to my first cool car....

I had several of that body style and can atest to thier strength but they don't hold up to rust at all. My conv. floors rusted out and car bent in the middle before I could replace floors:mad: , the hardtops all needed quarters and floors. The foxs need a lot less body matainance:D

And I thought I was lucky when I rolled my 2wd 1982 datsun P/U @ 90mph and walked away from that!

86elan, you WERE lucky, but did you have to turn off the Datsun after the rollover? The Cougar took on a train and was still running afterwards. Now, that's Ford Tough!!

I would really like to see a '70s XR7 done up and "modernized" a bit- nice wheels, lose the vinyl top, monochrome paint scheme, etc...

I love the body lines but the car is a bit "cluttered" from the factory and the interior has those lazy boy seats in it. Would make a great "big" cruiser with a built 351 or big block underhood :)
