Some noise coming from engine?.....help pls

Hey guys, i just installed an msd tfi coil, and after installing it, i started the car and i hear a electrical sound much like a generator coil sound "if you know aht i mean" , i cant really describe it, im pretty sure its coming out of the new msd coil, is this normal, is it becoz i m using a higher voltage coil......the sound is not too low or too high.....just kinda annoying when you dont listen to anything on the stereo...! is it possible to get rid of this sound?.....

You must have got the Impulse Plasma Drive version Captian Kirk.

I've never heard of one doing that before honestly. Could the alternator be working harder? I'm shooting in the dark here!

A whata whatta what?.... :)

the alternator is new.......it is fine.......the coil is making the noise, like a high output electronic item ........lets say you buy an electric heater "high output" , when u plug it in your home, it makes a high pitch noise....electrical noise....you know what i mean right?......well i just wanted to know whether its normal or not....and whether i can hookup something to it or do something to make that sound go away!

You mean like the power supply on a computer?

You mean you put in an ignition coil made by MSD, correct? Yes they make noise. I don't think you can make the noise go away. Mine's been doing the same thing for 3 years now...

It is an annoying sound but soon you will tune it out. Mine drove me nuts for the first month or two after I put it on but now I'm so used to hearing it that it doesn't bother me anymore.

Ah, the the good ol msd buzzing noise. Mine does it as well. What it is, is the the coil actually vibrating. Normal coils do it to, but since they're not as high of an output you don't hear it. Try putting your finger on it while the car is running, you'll feel what i'm talking about (and no it's not the car). Anyway's it's normal, just give it a while like others have said. You'll tune it out and won't hear it unless you try.

Well Capacitors buzz when they charge. Like camera's and power supply's from Pc's!

I guess a coil is a capacitor isn't it?

Someone with an msd should try this.

add a capacitor from the frame ground to the metal frame of the coil. same type of filter you see hooked up to a 351w engine where the coil has a noise filter.

Id like to see if someone could rob or copy the 351w filter onto an msd coil. ive heard about this before but im surprised no one has tried common audio system filter parts yet.

no to both

but...... a coil is a wire wound up but the distance between the windings produces and effect of a cap. thats a bit deep than what we're talking about like air core caps and such.

Yeah, msd actually makes a specific filter for their product. I think it's like 14 bucks or so. Guess I shoulda mentioned that. Sorry!

I assume your talking about the msd branded filter? I haven't used the branded one, but when I installed my headunit I hardwired a metra noise filter into the harness adapter and it works great. However I intend to put in the msd one in do to the fact that my mp3 player pulls it's power outta the cig lighter and I get white noise and hiss when i'm on it's source input.
