My favorite as well, went to see it at the theater, back in the day...

BTW most don't know, but the group that made the movie were a bunch of stunt actors... HB Halicki who was shown driving, actually did the stunts... Guessing they bought up a fleet of used police cars as most were 3-4 years old when the movie was made... Back then cars were rarely in service more than five years...

The was to be a sequel in approx '91, but during filming a cable holding a water tower snapped hitting HB, unfortunately killing him...

No-one will probably mention it but but the end chase scene in Tarrantino's "Death Proof" is kick ass.

Here's a link to the first half. I like the second half better.

I love this movie... An instant cult classic in my book.

let's not forget the end to "Blues Brothers"  Of course there's the Cannonball run and smokey and the bandit movies, too.  But my fave is what's already been posted.  The original (1974)

Almost forgot  about "Ronin"

Youtube took mine down

Yeah the ending chase to Blues Brothers is great. I love the fact that they actually drove 120 mph through down town Chicago :D

Starred Terrence Hill. Towards the end he jumps a boss mustang through the open doors of a moving box car.

Long before CG effects.

I actually think that whole movie is awesome.  It's interesting to see how different everything was back then.  I especially like the airport shootout lol.  Although, yes, it's almost like they wrote the rest of the movie around the chase scene.  But who cares?  It's iconic.  There might never be one better.

The original Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) ....(not that 2000 something special effects  !) was the greatest car chase movie of all TIME !!!!!  45 minutes of non stop action in that car chase.

What was interested was when he was trying to exit the freeway, he made a hard right for the off ramp and clipped a light pole....not planned at all. Tore the hell out of the car. Toby Haliki came out o.k., and the crew fixed the car enough to restart filming 2 hours later. Amazing!

Part 2 was called "The Junkman" and was released in 1982 and he smashed up even more cars in that one. I have the DVD.

Sadly, Toby was killed in 1989 while shooting part 3 (some say part 2) and he was doing a  stunt to clear a water tank.

This guy could do it all. he wrote, produced, drove his own stunts (as well as other characters in the movie) and organized everything.
Hell, he even got the Mayor of Long Beach (I believe ) to get in on the movie. Alot of big names (at the time) play in the movie. Alot of off-duty police officers too. He had a knack for getting people like that in his films.

Had a huge car collection, models, etc.

What a shame. He was only 49 when he was killed.

Forget all of you that don't say the old mach 1 in the gone in 60 secs no repairs and it still dirves to this day after a 40min+ chase and many many wrecks.

Bullitt was good except the had to fix the car 3 times in the one chase and the charger R/T never had to be fixed.

Vanishing Point is a movie that was all about chasing one man and one car.. what stuck out my mind the most was the end:
