engine cleaner

So anyone have a favorite? I really need to clean the engine in my 95 because it's really, really dirty :hick:

I've never really used engine degreaser/cleaner before because I was able to clean up the bay on my 88 with WD40 and a rag before I painted it as it was pretty clean. So any recomendations? I'm not looking for show clean but I want it cleaner so I don't have to wash my hands every time I check the oil:hick:

Discovered that stuff this spring BIG FAN haven’t used it on the car yet
I’ve also used grease lightning on my car and power washer.

Easy-Off oven cleaner.

Get the engine warmed up, the drive to the U-spray-it should be enough, spray the engine with Easy-Off, close the hood and wash the rest of the car. Open the hood and rinse the engine off.

I use Simple Green for most of my desgreasing duties...especially the ones that involve the results washing onto the ground.
Granted the grease/oil is one problem, but no need to add to it.

i'd like to clear this up with my dad.  he says that using a pressure washer under my hood would mess up the electronics and the car would never be the same again.  i can see by you guy's posts that you've had no such problem.  is there specific electronics under the hood to avoid.  i mean i know pressure washers how they can destroy paint, all kinds of stuff, i worked as a pressure washer (driveways, houses, etc) but other than that is there anything i should look out for?

Question though: do any of these products stip paint? I really don't want to strip the paint off my inner fenders and intake manifold while the grease comes off :hick:

ive washed mine at the car wash several times. i just didn't hold the pressure on the alt and things i didn't want to mess up .  you  would be amazed at what the super clean and a garden hose can do. yes super clean can strip paint that is why you dilute it. i used a 50/50 mix one my tough gresse jobs.

Understandably so. Common sense must be used when using one. I've heard that line over and over about high pressure messing up a car....well no s$#! if your blasting away at harness connectors, alternators, just about anything electrical where water doesn't belong. I've relied on mine for several years to keep the car and both trucks engine compartments clean. Like I said....common sense goes a long way.

i use simple green to clean lots of stuff, have for years but never tried to wash my engine with it yet. need to find a decent solution for getting the  from my hood pad off of my fender areas and such( and all over the engine as well.
when i worked at cardone in disassembly we used some kind of stuff that cleaned our stations and the parts right out of the yard and made them look brand new, made the oil and grime run right off of it without water or anything. i wish i could remember the name to that stuff(came in 55 gal. drums) as id love to get my hands on some now:hick:
