S197 Mercury Cougar?

I think it's still got too much Mustang in it to have a shot as a unique Mercury Product. The Giugiaro chop looks more like it, IMO. If you're going to build a rehashed Mustang for Mercury, you may as well call it a Capri.

I can't see Ford announcing "The all new CAPRI!!!!' (the crowd goes wild, critics faint).  If they did that, everyone would just say, "Why didn't you name it the Cougar?"

Weren't its origins Mustang based?

Yes the cougar was originally a corporate Twin to the Mustang.

But was never an obvious reface, as the Capri was.

I don't care, I just want one.

I always like the Shelby because it used Cougar/TBird tailights - thought it was the coolest combination available. I've been tempted to buy the one for sale I see driving up the highway in my area from time-to-time - it's purty. Not $30k purty though :D

If i had the money, I would be very tempted to make a Cougar out of a stang, maybe someone like saleen, roush or the company that does the boss would do it. I know everyones got thier own preferences, but at least a performance package you could order would be pretty cool as well. Nice thought anyway.
