S197 Mercury Cougar?

I've been browsing a couple of my favorite artistic related websites to see if FoMoCo is just concentrating it's efforts on cafepress (see calendar thread for details) or everyone in general. In the process I ran across a couple artistic renditions of the Mercury Cougar based on the S197 Mustang. Not sure if these are reposts but I figured I would share anyways...

the rear fenders on the first one looks too chevy to me, and the concept is waaaaay to chevy lookin to me.... chevy seems (to me at least) more aggressive with curves (retro mustang vs retro camaro is a KEY example)

I find the 2010 concept to be ULTRA-bad ass! I like it!

I dont see the resemblence to any camaro ever built. That car is 100% cat... I say build it as is!

I like em all as well, but I definitly prefer the later. I realy can't see why Ford doesn't let Mercury build em'. They could be built on the same assembly line as well. I don't even think it would cost a whole lot for them to make at least 25,000 of em'. All they need is a little cosmetic work.

Keep dreaming
It would be dumb for ford to do it it’s the camaro and firebird problem there competing against each other.
Then in a few years they will discontinue both.
I’m a fan of bringing it back but it has to look a lot different then the mustang.

I like them all but we wouldn't get them up here in canada anyways as Mercury is a dead name up here.

Sorry I don't have photoshop, but I hacked up a cougar in Paint a while back and thought it should look like this.

The point being to preserve the best of all Cougars, ie the houndstooth pop up headlights. and the rear quarter window of the 80's.

Wow!  I like it! The grill could use some Retro Cougar treatment but I definately like the roofline/window look.
