How is the car going to be geared?  Overdrive sure is beneficial with any highway driving if running lower rearend gears...

Take the convertible out on the highway and shift out of OD into D and drive for a bit. If you think you can live with that, go with the C6 :hick:

It's got a 8.8 w/3.73

If I cruise it around the Island, I never really drive faster then 45.
the vert made it to OD 2x since I've been driving it.
Don't think highway driving will be an issue with this car

C6 with 3.73s mmmmmmmmmmmmm, i've done a C6 with 3.70s in my old 75 cougar.
Revved around 32-3500rpm at 120k,kinda high in my opinion.
Get an aod out of an SC(preferably) or mustang(should be pretty cheap).
I have a rebuilt one out of an SC jerry but i just don't think i want to part with it(good spare since both my car's have aod's).
Look over on sccoa, you may find one fairly close for cheap.

best advise of the day!
hardened input shaft as well on the sc aod......per tom.,, he should know.
next up would be valve bodies with a letter grade or stamp of "A" or something along those lines.
all of this gets you the best trans pretty cheap.

pm tom,,

Yes the SC aod has the A overdrive servo as well as a wider and stronger overdrive band.

AOD, AOD, AOD:D. Are you sure the shaft from the 3.8 won't work?

I was reading this the other day. I'm not quite sure if the difference is just with an 88, or all 3.8s. Or for that matter, if there will be a difference that I'll run into.
I'm just be overly cautious and doing my research now before I get to that project.

A T5 shaft is close to the same length of a 5.0 AOD Bird and will interchange... A TC A4LD auto shaft is approx 5" shorter than a AOD shaft... A 3.8 AOD D/S is apparently a different length(see link)...

So, does anyone have the exact length of a DS for a 5.0 with a 8.8 rear?

Is that the correct length of the DS, in that link?

Did anyone ever use the DS from the 3.8 in there 5.0 swap?

On topic, aerostar D/S 's are aluminum.  You have to transfer your yoke.  The gain is weight loss.

converter and I run high 11's with no problems, it just gets hot on the highway because I was too cheap to buy a lock-up converter

Yea, I'll probably use my AOD... I'll deal with the DS after the motor is back in I guess
