You should be able to use the drive shaft that was in the Cougar with the 5.0 AOD combo. I'm 99% certain that the 3.8 and 5.0 cars with AODs used the same length drive shaft.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

I never had that combo, so I'll try with the 3.8/ AOD combo. I'm pretty sure it won't be a problem.

i know there was a chart of the variouse drive shaft leingths years ago but im not sure where to find it now. It had a combo on 3.8-c6 then 3.8-AOD and 5.0-AOD.

I'm pretty sure you can, because the trans mount still bolts to the same spot. The aod is no different externally!

X2.But,get a Crown Vic shaft and have it shortened before you need the driveshaft,Just start out with the aluminum one.They can be found wicked cheap at the yards,and well,you know the rest of the shortening story.;

I didn't know they cost a lot there.I actually thought they were cheaper. I did know they were rusty though.LOL.

Out here,it's free to go into the yards,and when the guy says "$10.00",then it's $10.00....not "plus tax,etc.".Usually,I can fill a large duffel bag (I use it to tote parts at the yards) with a bunch of small parts and he'll ask for $20-25.00.
