TV / kickdown cable picture

I was changing the passenger side valve cover gasket today and accidentally popped off the TV / kickdown cable off the AOD Cougar (luckily I found the hairpin again). Could I get a picture of how this thing attaches back to the lever? It seemed pretty intuitive at the time, but I'd like to double check - it still seems this thing could pop off pretty easily?

Also, now that the cable came off, is there anything else I need to check before driving around again?

It just comes up from below, the little "stub" goes through the hole.
Most of us have a self-destructing rubbery grommet that the stub just snaps into. If you have a hairpin, was the grommet replaced with something else (like the brass bushing kit), or is the hairpin just for extra safety?

Andrew, you have the replacement bushing set on your throttle body. That came from Ford and consists of a brass bushing and the hairpin. That bushing should be on the post sticking up from the kickdown cable, or in the hole on the throttle body lever (sometimes it gets jammed in there). Either way, push the cable up through and clip on the hairpin on the topside (you'll see the groove in the cable). That's all there is to it. If you lost the bushing then you'll have to find something to replace it, or get another kit. The AOD doesn't like running without a bushing.

Thanks for the quick replies! I don't want to have another transmission rebuild nightmare again  :mad:

Sounds like I have it in there correctly, but it still makes me nervous. I just wanted to make 100% sure to avoid having the transmission take a dump again. It seems like this hairpin clip holding the grommet in there is pretty weak - like hitting a large pothole or something could dislodge it. I'll snap a picture of it tomorrow.

Ok, here's how it looks as of now (sorry about the smog vacuum wiring getting in the way).

It just seems like the plastic part could pop down off the pin way too easily.  :dunno:

That's absolutely correct, Andrew...looks fine. If you pull down on the cable end you should find that it's pretty difficult to pop the pin off. Now if you're adventurous, you can drill a hole in that plastic part and put a cotter pin through it. That would be ultimate piece of mind. However, take into consideration that the same setup on your car is what's on my convertible. That should tell you something right thar. ;)

Surprisingly, the dealer usually has one.  That's where I got mine when I needed it.
