Taking the rotary heater control swap a step further...

I wanted to attempt stepping my rotary heater control swap to a unit with electrical temperature control because the cable ones SUCK!  Anyone have any input?  I'm guessing it'd basically be the new control panel and then a servo mounted at the heater box.  Anyone have any input before I drive 45 minutes to search for parts?

The electrical/automatic temp system for the Bird is a total different animal... Utilizes a different plenum with servos to operate the blend doors...

AFIC, it's a system to RUN away from... You guys can keep your rotary controls and EATC, my levers work just fine...

Are you talking about an EATC out of a newer car?

I actually like the EATC out of my 95 better than the 88. The thing is much easier to use since it only has, oh, 3 buttons and two s instead of the 10 tiny buttons all the way down at the bottom of the dash like the 88 :hick:

Hmm, bummer...  Didn't realize it was that different!  good thing I posted this....  It would still be sweet though!  I'm so sick of sticking py cables!

It might sound sweet, but it most definitely leaves a sour taste in your mouth when the servos start screwing up on you.

Booksix... The EATC out of a Mountaineer such as my 98 is actually a simple unit.  The unit is nothing more than a fancy Vacuum switch.  Its totally different than the ATC stock to a fox.  The ATC in a fox uses stepper motors to control the blend door as well as the vent position.  The EATC out of a Mountaineer/Explorer just controls the vacuum such as a manual unit.  It would be easier to retrofit an EATC than an ATC. 

I like the way you think.

Do you need any more information about the EATC?  I know of a few pinouts and how to's for retrofitting it into a Ranger and Explorer.  That should provide you with all the needed information.

Seems lie there is a lot less that can go wrong with the EATC over the ATC........

Does the EATC have a self test?

I don't know about that.  I'm sure it would be incorporated into the design..
