Some help with timing mark on 5.0 November 30, 2007, 08:22:07 PM Replaced a thermastat on my 5.0 motor and loosened the distributer to get my hand in to one of the bolts. After I was done, I set up the timing light to reset the base timing. Removed the jump on the distributer, found the mark on the balancer but I'm not quit sure where 10 BTDC is. Is 0 degrees the pointed mark or the notch? (note the figure below) Also would 10 degree be say....1/4 inch away, 1/2 inch away? |---\ |-__/ | | |- \ |- | --- Quote Selected
Some help with timing mark on 5.0 Reply #1 – November 30, 2007, 08:29:59 PM The pointer should be TDC or 0 degrees. Probably about a i/4 inch would be safe if you have no numbers. I usually drive my car and adjust the dist until I here no detonation and then back off a little more. Quote Selected
Some help with timing mark on 5.0 Reply #2 – December 01, 2007, 12:37:13 AM Easy way: jack up front of car, crawl under, paint balancer, wipe off paint but leave it in the recesses (numbers lines ect). Vola now you can see the timing marks :D Quote Selected
