Cobra intake is installed!

I installed a polished cobra intake today, turned out good but there is one problem with it, the thermostat housing ishiznitting the distributor and I cant adjust the timming.....  What gives?  anybody have this problem?:mad:

looks like you need to put the dizzy back a few teeth so you can have some advance adjustment.

Meh, my bone-stock SO has a similar problem - distributor is installed such that there's almost no room between the module and the tstat housing to advance the timing (well, not AS bad, I think I've got a degree or three to work with, but that's it).

Ugh...

i got a wire loom kit now i need to find where it went before i swap my 306 for a 331. looks very nice sorry to hear about the timing probelm that sucks.

Dang, all you need now are the matching Cobra valve covers and your engine bay would be a near match to mine :giggle:

I've mastered installing and removing the lower without pulling or loosening the distributor btw ;)

X2.I just leave the distrubtor alone.Nice intake,looking good.Are you doing the Mass Air conversion?I agree about the valve covers.Those black ones need to go.I polished up a set of Cobras and installed on mine.really set it off.That Cobra intake was what I wanted as well untill I designed my own.What size throttle body are you using?I'm selling a 65 with a smoothed and polished inside,and ready to bolt on (hint hint).

Give me time, X-mas shopping has to happen first now, LOL.
and yeah I can swap out intakes without removing the dissy, too.  Just easier to remove it.

Once I swap in the HO I will be going Mass air, as there is a power adder in the future of this car, And I have a 70MM polished PP TB onit right now, thanks anyways.;)

no, it was a pain in the ass!  I couldn't get the teeth to engage just one off.  Everytime I tried it wouldn'work.  must have tried 20 times.  got sick of pulling the distributor and trying to find a spot for the oip pump drive to line up with it.  might try again this weekend, although I really am not too worried about it now if it is sold.

You know I think only the Ford Racing repops have this problem. I swear that I heard that the stock ones don't have this problem.....

It’s been a while but if I recall correctly it’s nothing to engage the teeth of the dizzy where you want it to end up , Then the dizzy will drop in part way, then turn the engine by hand (ratchet on the dampener bolt) until the shaft lines up with the pump, and it falls the rest of the way in. They don’t HAVE to go together all at once.
