Slammed on the brakes

Well im new to the forum and I like what ive seen so far lots of great info, I was recently taking a night drive through town when this idiot pulled out in front of me, followed by a big SLAM of the brakes, well at the next light my cougar was running like , i stopped at the service station to check the brake booster the vaccum line was hooked up so im just baffled at what the problem could be so i dug a little deeper i removed the upper half of the intake to find some hoses dryrotted and one completely off. Hooked it back up and it still runs like , also have replace wires and plugs and fuel filter still no dice, any ideas? Thanks

Take the vacuum line going to the booster off and plug it, then see if the engine still runs like  (Do NOT drive the car as you won't have power brakes). You might have ruptured the diaphragm inside the booster causing a vacuum leak. It's a stretch, as I've never heard of it happening, but it's about the only connection I can see between slamming on the brakes and the car running like  afterwards.

Have you pulled codes yet, or had it done?
That may give a general direction to start in

Don't worry, the cel light doesn't have to be on ;)

If you don't have a scanner, you can pick one up at AutoZone or Advance for about $30. That's depending if they exist where you live of course.
AutoZone can scan codes for free too if you take the car there.
There is also a write-up in this thread about how to check them yourself without a scanner.
