Ted,
Don't you tempt me or John... ;)

We're kinda set on it being a stick car. If that's easy enough to do with the Caddy 500 though...

Sticks are hard to do with the Cadillac 500.  The flywheel has to be custom made for about $500.  Also the torque tends to turn most production transmissions to garbage.

Would have to to to a turbo 400.

Ted,
Darn! See, it's easy to do a T5 style trans behind the AMC 401 (since AMC was the first to use them, ala 4-Speed in the Spirit). I even have a proper bellhousing here for it. So, yeah, if we were going to do a non-Ford, the 401 would get the nod.

gumby,
YEP! :hick: I have a similar one: FAST - CHEAP - GOOD, You may choose any two
That's why it's a race car only (no daily driving) and we'll at least bring the tow strap to the track (we'll still drive it there) and the truck!

I have a theory that theres something in the Dark Charcoal Metallic Paint Mixture that fights off rust better than other factory Paint choices. :hick:
Personally i think mine should have serious rust issues from it's hard life, But it doesnt... And it amazes me.

This has not been done more than once around where i live and not for a few years ago. A Nova with a cement filled 350 and a 350 SHOT finished the 1/4 doing 160mph+. Heard this story a few days ago again sounds like a cheap build to me.

I have the 302 from my totaled 87 Sport. That's where the idea for the project came from. Unfortunately, we never got it to run :( So I hope it's OK down in there...

Your distributor hole is gone!

I don't recall anything like that being cleared through the Forum!

Michael:
All loaded and it will be there tomarrow about 4 to 4:30.
It's not going to be in the way, it had to go up there sooner or later, I'm in no rush for the fender or door (the mirrior would be nice however) so whenever is good for you after that.

Hell yeah! SBC in a Bird that's already seen a 460 and a 13 second 2.3!  11's soon? ;)

Jim,
We're coming down that way for Thanksgiving this week. Will you be around Thursday morning? Or maybe the weekend?

Not Thursday, Thats TG will be leaving here (apartment in Vancouver) for Boring Or in the morning then most of the day.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, yes! (along with every other free minute of every free day of my life till the house is done) we (I) usually get there by noon and then are there until 6-8 or until I can't stand up straight anymore.

Good lord, nooo! a 351w can make the same power for close to the same price nowadays and be just as dependable!
I live in a chevy town and absolutely hate the "chevy guy" mentality that a SBC is better than everything, when I can nit-pick and find a few py design features of this 50+ yr. old design that everybody loves so much. SB fords deserve alot more respect!! Don't mind me, I'm just venting...
