Tripminder problems

Ok, first off before everyone starts giving their two cents, let me give you a few details.

I have the tripminder installed, all the wires are in the right place, checked and double checked.  However when i turn my car on i get nothing.

I checked the tm before i installed it and it worked.  So my first thought after checking the wires, again, is bad connection.  I know that computers are delicate, but when there is a connection issue there arent many other options.  This being said i unplugged and replugged in the tm.  Low and behold it comes on.  Now is says "12:00 reset".  This isnt the problem though.

The problem is, when i turn the ignition switch off and back on the tm doesnt come on unless i unplug it and plug it back in again.

Any suggestions before i take it apart and start cleaning connections would be great.

Thanks a bunch!:birdsmily:

This is just a guess, but I'd say you've got your "constant power" and "power in ACC" wires switched around...

If that was true wouldnt it be on ALL the time then? Its memory would also be lost every time you turn the key off.

No, it wouldn't be on all the time. The tripminder requires power on both circuits to come on. If you have power on one circuit but not the other it won't come on. The memory wouldn't necessarily be lost (meaning it might be lost or it might not be lost)  every time you turn the key off because it's still getting power through the acc circuit (which is hooked up to constant power). He has to unplug it and plug it in again to get it working, so we don't know if it's losing its memory anyway.

not to steal the thread or anything but when I turn the key off with mine it stays on for about a minute or so then turns off.

Confused with mine as well...  perhaps there was a few different wiring setups...

my dimmer does nothing to my tripminder...  how can I test to see which wire SHOULD be for the dimmer circuit?

anyone have a tested and trued wiring diagram that works well with a trip install to end all this confusion?
