So I painted it...

Yeah, I finally got around to throwing the paint at the car. It came out exceptionally well if I do say myself, considering all of the things working against me: First car I'd ever painted, had to do it in a dirty garage, etc...

There was only one problem area. When I first started spraying I did the roof, then the hood, then the trunklid, then started doing the right side. I got about half way down it when paint stopped coming out of the gun. OK, I thought, must be out of paint. I went over to the bench and mixed up another batch, then started spraying again. After a short while the paint started sputtering, then stopped again. I tried cranking up the fluid screw. Still no paint. Tried adjusting the pattern. Still no paint. Cranked up fluid some more. Still no paint. I was perplexed, and was just about to get really mad at the Chinese (the gun is "Made In China" Princess Auto ).

Then I noticed the vent hose for the reservoir was kinked - it was bent double, from the nipple on the reservoir to a "dummy" nipple on the gun body. I disconnected it and tried again, and lo-and-behold I had paint!

Unfortunately, after cranking up the liquid I had too much paint, and a big gob of it came out on the quarter panel. RUN CITY!!!

So tomorrow I've got to sand the runs out and do that quarter panel again. Even with the runs I'm quite pleased with how the job came out...

...and more (this really sucks on dialup)

The last pics show the runs. The amazing thing: Not a SINGLE fisheye on the entire car :shakeass:And no frickin' orange peel either, except on the side of the car with the runs (the spattering, intermittent paint caused it - that's my story and I'm sticking to it), but since I've got to sand and do that part of the car over anyway I don't care :hick:

It's acrylic enamel. The cheap stuff. I wasn't gonna spend a bunch of money on expensive paint just to ruin it :hick:
