Where do I get a new throttle cable?

Mine looks only a little better than this :hick:

The little brass stopper on mine isn't quite touching the back of the fire wall at rest. Advance doesn't seem to have one. Any ideas where I can get one? I should probably replace the TV cable while I'm at it. Any one know where I can get on of those too? It's not horrific as the gas pedel feels fine and with the pedel to the floor the throttle butterfly is open all the way. I just want to fix this before I have a problem.

might check with the ford dealer but if they cant get them then the junk yard is your only other option.

Rockauto doesn't have it, nor does Partsamerica or fastpartsnetwork.

The cable on my 3.8L Cougar is stretched. I was thinking of clamping a lead fishing weight on the cable to make up for the extra length. :hick:

I had though about putting small washers between the pedle and the end of the cable to take up the slack. I don't know how much of a long term solution that is though.

Problem with those is they fit 94-95 5.0 Mustangs which have a slightly differnt set up from a Fox Cat/Bird or 86-93 Stang.

Ok so just an update. The one from a Mustang I got fits fine but it was streached a bit as well (not as bad as my stock one though). So I know for a fact that the 86-93 5.0 Mustang, 86-88 5.0 T-bird & Cougar, and the 86-92 Lincoln Mark VII use the same throttle cable. I ordered a new one and it should be here in a week. The part number is as follows:

automatic car: E6SZ-9A758-A
Manual car: E6ZZ-9A758-A

Don't ask me why they have different part#s since they are both the same length:hick: The part is still avaliable and costs $108. I know a guy so I got it at cost for $60. 5.0 guys have a source for a new throttle cable. You 2.3T and 3.8 guys are kinda screwed though...

Just as an update. I got the new cable but haven't installed it yet as it's been cold and I really don't want to go out to the garage. So I did compare it with the 20 year old one that came off my T-bird. The original one has to be pulled out 1.5" to fully compress the throttle return spring (full throttle) where as the new one only requires 1" to do the same thing. The old one was a bit streached. I can't wait to see how much of a difference a non streached throttle cable makes when the snow finally melts :D
