Identifying model/engine at a glance? October 07, 2007, 10:47:56 PM A guy JUST down the road from me has an '87-88 Thunderbird sitting in his driveway, exact same color as mine. This car has dual tailpipes and the 14" 8-hole aluminum wheels. Is it safe to assume this car is probably a 5.0? Could it be a Sport or is it more likely an LX?I haven't seen this car move all summer, makes me wonder if it even runs or what's going on with it. Identifying model/engine at a glance? Reply #2 – October 07, 2007, 11:25:58 PM Window molding will tell you if its a sport or LX. Sports have blacked out trim like a TC, LX's have chrome. Quote Selected

I have seen V6 cars at the wreakers with dual pipes so someone could add them...... Quote Selected
Identifying model/engine at a glance? Reply #4 – October 08, 2007, 02:21:11 PM By simple deduction...- 1988 5.0 engines in the Cougar/T-Bird had factory dual exhaust- 14" 8-hole rims were optional on the Sport V8 model- Black out trim only came on Sports and Turbo Coupes- 14" 8-hole rims will not clear the TC's 11" front brakes So...if you see blacked out trim it's a Sport. If you see black/chrome trim then it's probably a base/LX, or a V6 car with duals added. Quote Selected
