Are the bulbs OK? Might sound stupid, but you'd be surprised how often it happens... First one burns out and you don't notice, then the other does

A prime example would be my father's Hyundai Sonata. His safety inspection ran out yesterday so he had me check the car before he takes it in. He had nine, count 'em, NINE burned out bulbs. All four brake lights (his only functioning brake light was the CHMSL), two front side marker lights, a fog light, a front park light, and a license plate light.

The two front signal lights are two separate circuits, so a bad wire would be unlikely (the chances of having two bad wires would be rare) unless you've got a wire harness chaffing on something.

Remove the bottom steering column cover and the bottom panel of the dash, under the column. Turn on the left signal light and look for the light green wire with white stripe coming from the multifunction switch (MFS). This is the wire that goes to the front bulb (there should actually be two light green/white wires, but they should both go to the same terminal on the MFS). The test light should flash. If it does, the switch is OK and the problem is with the wire between the switch and the bulb (or in the socket). If the test light does not flash your problem is with the switch.

Repeat the test with the right turn signal on, only this time look for a white/light blue stripe wire (again, there should be two, and they should both go to the same terminal on the MFS)
