Found out what causes... September 15, 2007, 11:54:01 PM Rusting and Bubbling around the rear window trim...The stupid little clips that hold the trim on rust like crazy and then eat into the paint and body of the car. I've finnaly got a large driveway area to work on the 'Bird until i cant get the carport fixed up, So i moved it over today and started washing the filthy beast down... And noticed the window trim on the back was raised up and lose, As well as a lot of tree junk coming out from underneath.I ended up pulling the trim off (which wasnt hard, All the clips were broken and disintegrating) And being horrified at the carnage they left.Heres a pic of some of the clips:One of the 2 Worst areas:Drier pic of it:If any of this rust has eaten through... Reply #2 – September 17, 2007, 03:14:02 PM My ex-brother-in-law used to be a custom body man and when he would work on cars that had trouble gathering water in the rear window trim what he would do is drill a hole underneath the window trim and then attach brake lines going through the body and out under the car so that any water running under the trim could run out and avoid the rusting problem. Reply #6 – September 17, 2007, 08:04:21 PM Thanks for the tip!, I've already got some repair work ahead of me for the damage thats been done, So i think i'll go ahead and do the drain thing also.Need to go get EVERY rear trim clip off of the only 4eye bird thats in the yard right now, As Every clip rusted out... That's what happens when a car sits for nearly 10 years i guess.What amazes me though, Is that this is the worst of the rust i've encountered so far.Either this Charcoal clearcoat paint is really strong, Or it got some kind of special treatment done to it, or both?.
