It goes away when you get into the trottle because you are lowering the vacuum.

No help other than you need to start doing some digging....sorry, but you're the one there with the car in front of you.

x2... Even if you made sure to hook everything up right, you could've missed a cracked hose or damaged/pulled one loose when you installed the unit.

use some pliers to help find the leak. pull out the a/c controls, get some vacuum line diagrams, and narrow it down.

88 turbo.... are you serious? would you do that? thanks. only problem is i work 2nd shift as a production manager and i have a little "meeting" tomorrow and have to be at work around 2:30 i'll PM my phone # definatly give me a call, i might be able to get some time free.

also cowboyx where would i get a good vacuum diagram for these cars?

and ya guys (and gals?) i figured it was i broke something or missed a cracked line as old and brittle as these lines are. any tipson how to locate a vacuum leak? one time thought i read about using a propane bottle torch (not lit of course) and run it around all the vacuum lines, supposedly it is supposed to cause your idle to rise? not sure if this would work if the leak is in the HVAC system...... also, with this vacuum leak why am i not experiencing any driveability problems? hmm oh well, just more work i guess, good thing i enjoy it huh... :)

There is a silver round canister in the dash area i believe to the left behind the glove box.  There will be a vac line that can be seen  that controls the HVAC inside your car.  I think the vac line is clear.

If you turn on your blower and select dash to vent to floor ect and the blower does not change directions, you found the problem.

open the glovebox and pry in the tabs on each side.  this lets the glove box open all the way and you can see back in there better.

Either that or another HVAC conneciton plugged in bass akwards or wrong.  see pic in the area i have a circle.

From under the hood look at the two heater core hoses coming through.  There is a black plastic line that runs in around them.  That is the line that is broken.  Its the only one hard enough to break.. the lines in the car are made of a very plyable rubber.

Jcassity ya when i move the switch to vent floor mix and defrost it wont change where the air is coming from, stays on defrost the whole time. i'll look at that canister and line first, then go from there, thank you all for the help.

thanks mercury man
