When it rains, it pours.....And now it's a Sun-Shiny Day

My buddy got the car up on his lift today and began the process of swapping my torque converer.  He called me shortly after he started and told me I needed to see this.....

Turns out my transmission crossmember is on it's death bed.  It's cracked about 2 inches to the right of the right hand bolthole going to the trans.  The crack starts at the backside and goes forward about 2/3rds of the way.  Okay.  Next problem.  My headers are DONE.  One of the primaries on the right side rotted clean through and has a hole about 2 inches long by a half an inch wide.  Keep in mind I was under the car about 2 weeks ago for an oil change.  THe header MAY have rotted through before that, but the crossmember's deadly wound is new.

My friend is pretty sure he has the same exact set of headers laying in a garage he rents and that if he still has them, they are in great condition.  He's not 100% though.  If they are not there anymore, then it's time to fab up another custom H-pipe.

This doesn't upset me too much as I've wanted to quiet the car down some.  I was thinking of the bullet style fiberglass core Magnaflows.....

Another option on the headers.....Someone else I know has Mac shortys and an X-pipe for an SN-95.....other than possible shift linkage problems, are there any other fitment issues as far as those go?

You most likely already know this, but Summit sells new FRPP double hump crossmembers.

I run FRPP stainless shorties and a 2.5" Summit H-pipe on mine with no interference so you should be ok.

I have the Mac equal lgenth shorties and the 2.5" summit H with no issues. I will say the shifter linkage for a coloum shift is  close though

I have a double hump crossmember from the '86. I'll be pulling it this weekend so let me know if you want it.

Already got the crossmember.  Incidently, my plan exhaust-wise was Mac equal-length shorthies into a Mac H-pipe with lers and then dumps.  Upon fitting the Macs into place the driverside has TONS of room.  The passenger side hits.....I need another 3/4 of an inch to clear and not rub with engine vibrations.  Will the motor mounts brackets and mount points allow me to move over that far or should I just stick on the unequal lengths I have laying around?

We got them in.  The #3 tube washiznitting the frame rail.  We unbolted the motor mounts and centered everything.  Looks real nice now!  Now I just have to make a ler decision.

BTW, once I got the old passenger side header out, I noticed not one, but TWO of the primary tubes were rotted through.

Sounds like a feasible idea........I want the car to be much quieter than before though.  Do you remember how loud it was.  I'm looking for half that volume.  Oh, and absolutely NO FLOWMASTERS!!!!!

Yea your right the only less led it will be is because of the dumps are under the car instead of out the side.

Flowtech Afterburners. That's what I run. They have a nice tone but are fairly quiet at idle and cruise (nothing that's really annoying). Here's some clips of my car. My car has a cam but it's not as radical as yours so that may affect the sound a bit:hick:
