Fuel Filler Neck Seal

I need to replace the seal on my gas tank filler neck.  88 Cougar. Does anyone know if I can get this at Autozone or Pepboys or do I have to order from Ford?  I searched Autozone's website but couldn't find it.  I'm going to the store tonight but I thought I'd ask this forum first in case they are not very helpful there.  Thanks.

This reply is a little late, but I just wanted to say thanks for all the replies.  Especially for the part number, 88Turbo.  That helped alot when the guy looked at me like my car was too old to get parts for.  I could have gotten one for 19.00 online, but shipping was expensive so I just ordered one from the local Mercury dealer.  And it was indeed about 30 bucks.

Just found the same seal leaking on my car today and I looked and saw this thread.  Thanks 88 Turbo!

DO I have to pull the filler neck completely off or is there wiggle room?

I think the neck has to come out. I'm not sure though I did mine when I was changing the fuel pump :hick:

I think there might be room to slide the tube up and the tank down a bit I did mine in about 20 minutes

If I have to drop the tank I'll do a temp repair and wait.  THe leak is inconsequential.  More fumes than anything else and only when very close to the leak source.

I can deal with that.  So basically,  the passenger side tank strap, the 4 bolts on the quarter panel on the underside and the 2 from up top behind the fuel door, correct?

Well, I gave it a whack.  Turns out that I will need to drop the tank entirely.  I was unable to get the fill tube out with the passenger side strap removed and the tank hangign on that side.  To make even more room I loosened the driver side to the point where 3 threads on the bolt were holding the tank up.....  NO GO.

So I put a bead of high temp silicone around the tube for now as a temp repair.  Seems to have worked.  There's just too much gas in the tank now for me to drop it fully as I've really nothing around the house to drain it into.  Guess I'll just wait till the low fuel light starts flashing and pull it.

well that sucks...  I hate it when you get knee deep in something and find out that you have to put it back together and wait.  I forgot to tell you that it would work better with less fuel in the tank since the tube is in the side.
