I like Vista.. but then again I had XP when it came out in october 2001.. I jump on early..

I hate floppy drives with a passion.. every time I have to rely upon one to get me out of a hitch its farking dead!  But I always insist on people getting one.

Didn't want to leave a comment earlier as we build "workstation" computers for employees at work that are based on Core2Duo chips, 2GB memory, 400GB hdd, and WinXP Pro for just under $500. Of course, they also come with their own version of low end videocard, DVD burner, onboard sound, and $15 keyboard/mouse combo. Its these  lcd monitors that cost so much at prices other than "limit one per customer" sales.

I like Vista too. I have it on my laptop, its more confined, you use the start menu for alot starting out, but its easy to get used to.

Vista isnt bad at all as long as you have the power to support it. I would not even consider running it on anything less than a midrange system from a year or two ago.

I see a lot of budget computers out now with only 512mb of ram and whatnot preloaded with vista, and yes, those computers are gonna be 3 or 4 times slower just because they have vista instead of xp.

Its been very reliable for me though, maybe even more so than xp. It just runs a bit slower than xp, especially on startup.

My rig is a dell inspiron e1705, core duo t2250 1.73 ghz, 1gb ddr533 and a geforce go 7900gs. The hard drive holds me back the most, especially causing long startup times in vista, being that its just a 5400rpm drive. I think a 7200 rpm drive would help out a lot there.

I had it on a laptop with 1.5 gigs of ram. a 7200 rpm sata drive and a 2.something cpu.. booted faster than xp..

untill I started messing with it :)  I killed my first install in 1 day.. tried to install a non vista compliant Bluetooth adapter... d'oh!

my first install got owned by aim somehow... havent used the actual aim client since, i use a 3rd party client now that uses about 1/10th the memory.

That comp should serve you well; seems solid.  My old Athlon XP 2800+, 1GB RAM, 6600GT system ran Vista RC1 without a problem.

I'll be getting Vista for gaming.  I have a DX10 graphics card (8800GTS 320MB Superclocked), and with the rest of my specs (Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 3.4GHz, 2GB RAM @ DDR2 850), it should fare quite well :) .  I have one partition for XP and another for Vista (Ultimate 64bit).
