please help me settle a debate!

a buddy at work and i have a debate going on as the the weight of a stock 87-88 turbocoupe.

i say it weighs around 3600lbs., and he seems to think it's MUCH less at closer to 3000lbs.

i know everyone's going to have a different answer, but let's hear it.

Layla weighs 3650 according to the truck stop. That's EVERY option in the book, my 230Lb fat butt, and a 1/4 tank.

When I sold my 87 Code 33 TC last year, the waybill for the truck driver said a svelte 3140. That car had NO options and was shipped dry (no oil, water, gas, etc).

Ford's published curb weights for a 1987 base model with a 3.8L was 3,133 lbs. for 1988 the same car is listed @ 3,215 lbs.
In the 1988 Sales Guide there is a “Competitive Comparison” of other models that they considered a sales competitor to the 1988 Turbo Coupe, here they list the 1988 Turbo Coupes curb weight @ 3,415 lbs.

In my experience, the only way to settle a debate like that is by taking one to the scales.
You can get a bunch of responses to your question, but in most cases your friend won't be convinced unless the results are seen first hand.

yeah, i know.  i knew i'd get several different responses, but i thought i'd see what they were before put myself out by having to go to the scale.

Thanks for the feedback.

And did he tell you why he was arguing this?  He lost a race to a member at work, who drives a civic hatch with about 85whp.  He was complaining about how much his car weighed compared to it.  All I did was post up something I found saying that an 87 Turbo coupe weighed 3375lbs with driver and the Civic weighed 2100.  His buddy was claiming a 2000lb difference.

yes.  he is the narrow minded honda fan boy.  he's used to a honda propelled by a turbo motor going 13's... he can't understand why my car isn't faster then it is.  IT'S A FRIGGIN BOAT, MATT!!

Ha, yea, since my first three cars were american V8's.  And I've never had a 13sec honda, but good try.  Keep justifying why you lost to a car with under 100hp.  It makes you look good.

i never said that you have a 13 sec honda, but that's what you think a turbo car should run.  i'm not making excuses... my car is heavy... that's a fact.
