'88 XR7 Info Please!

Hey all. Newbie here.
I just looked at a VERY sharp '88 XR7 the other night and would just like any/all info anyone is willing to share. This particular cat has the 5.0, is black (looks new shine), with gray cloth interior. Has the ?turbine? type wheels with the center area blacked out. Also has the ?areo? package (looks like a Xenon body kit) including rear spoiler. In short, an extremely sharp looking ride with 102K miles. I'm just looking for any troublesome areas to check, characteristics (both good and bad), and so forth. I'd also like opinions of worth (I know this is hard w/out pics, etc. so---ballpark estimates).  This bad boy, even with 102K on it, literally looks in almost showroom condition on the exterior, and good to very good interior(clean non torn seats, little wear/slightly loose on center console arm rest, one small crack in dash). I've been looking for a new daily driver and this one really caught my eye! On an independent dealers lot and is asking $3800 cash, but I feel/think/wish I might could do better than that.
Thanks in advance
Chuck

all your basic info can be found here

cracks in the dash are common (im a lucky one, knock on wood). common problems, headlights yellowing and theres no reproduction headlights, so u gotta junkyard that. if it has an Automatic Climate Control, there reports of that not working properly. i have a problem with my locks not working, idk how common that is. mostly just basic stuff, these are 20 year old cars. seats rip, thing break, parts rust, kepp yiour eye open before you buy. and even if the car was ammaculate( which i doubt), i think $3800 is a little high

Thanks guys. Yeah, the body kit with the shiny black paint is nice, but...
The car is far from immaculate, but very, very nice all the same. The trunk area, for example, looks practically new. I'll give it a good going over the first part of the week and drive it, then start dickering. We'll see what happens from there.
Just for the record, I'm not completely new to the car hobby. I own a '69 Cougar 'vert (yellow--thus the name yellowragcat). It is driveable, but a continued work in progress.  I've been on another forum for years for the older cats, but figured if I wanted info on this particular year, I'd check out a couple of other Cougar forums.
Thanks again for your honest unbiased answers!

Great find.  Let me know if you pass on it cuz I'd be interested in it.  I think it might be worth around $2800-3000.

He probably got it for $1000 at auction.

X- I'll be sure to let you know. The car is about 40 minutes from my house, and I'm having some major dental work done Mon morning, but I hope to get down tomorrow afternoon to drive/talk turkey. My understanding is that they sold the car to a guy about 3-4 years ago w/70 some thousand miles and have just recently bought it back from him. Of course I don't know what they paid him for it, but I did see what was apparently his for sale sign in the seat when I first saw it and he was asking $4000. Of course we all know the differences between asking :D  and getting:disappoin

Hey all. I think I'm going to reluctantly pass on the '88 XR7 I found, but thought I'd post a few pics and see if everyone thinks I'm doing the right thing. I went and took a long hard look at her today. I found no rust and just a very clean car. It did idle rather fast and the tranny (supposedly rebuilt) tended to down shift fairly hard as slowing down. Other than that, really no complaints as to quality of the car. I just could not get past the dealer not wanting to go lower than $3500. As much as I lile the looks and feel of this cat, I just can't see putting quite that much in it. Ideas?
Thanks

This is one of those situations that we as fox car drivers have to look at.  If this was a Mustang it would be worth $3500.  If the car is as clean as the photos show then it would probably be worth that much, with low miles.
