Which speedo gear Reply #4 – July 21, 2007, 05:19:54 PM I recall reading somewhere that they are either 6 or 7 tooth. Have you done a search here, I think someone said that that was one of the differences between the mustang and tbird AOD's. Its been a while. Quote Selected
Which speedo gear Reply #5 – July 21, 2007, 06:24:41 PM If it's an original TB v-8 it should be 7 tooth.Mine was but I don'tknow if it was original. Quote Selected
Which speedo gear Reply #6 – July 21, 2007, 06:48:28 PM ok then. calculator says 20tooth driven gear(p/n C8SZ-17271-B, orange) for 25" tire, 3.55 rear gear, and 7 tooth drive gear auto.that page also states AOD's use 7 or 8 tooth drive gears, but i dont see any info on determining which you have.*edit, what color is your stock driven gear for 2.73's, and what was the stock tire size? we can work backwards and figure out what drive gear you have. Which speedo gear Reply #7 – July 21, 2007, 08:28:55 PM Aod's out of bird's and cougs are 8 tooth drive, mustangs aod's are 7 tooth drive and t5 manuals are 6 tooth. There is no ford gear for what you want to do vinnie, you have to go with an aftermarket 23 tooth off of ebay.I had one once before i put in the stang aod, it lasted 2 months before loosing teeth due to the thiness of the gear.My current aod is from a stang and is a 7 tooth drive with a ford 21tooth(highest ford aod gear) with 3.73s and it is within 1 km+ - on the dyno. With my old bird aod(8 tooth drive) i had to go with a 23tooth to make it accurate with the 3.73s.The max gear you can use and still use a ford 21tooth speedo gear is 3.27s,otherwise you just have to live with it being inaccurate. Which speedo gear Reply #12 – July 22, 2007, 08:42:18 PM I got a 4-pack of speedo gears from CJ Pony. They are for sale but they are for a T-5. I think they have AOD gears as well. Quote Selected
Which speedo gear Reply #13 – July 22, 2007, 08:56:48 PM just a side question...how much would getting bigger wheels and tires(overall diameter) change the difference in the speedo gear. for example, if he needed a 23 tooth gear and could only find a 21, would that compensate for the difference much? i ask 'cus either 3.55's or 3.73 are the next planned mod, i wanna know what im up against.
